I just scrubbed out ALL of our old dirty ashtrays...

Yeah, they smell pretty bad. Your sense of smell returns to you after quitting smoking in time. You'll probably notice the smoke smell on people who recently had a cigarette too.

LOL. I remember when I did this ... got a lot of satisfaction knowing it was the last time I would ever have to do it. However, I then had a dilemma, how to re-purpose the ashtrays? I used a couple of them as places to put excess pocket change but other than that, I really didn't know what to do with them. I threw the cheap ones away but over the years I had picked up some rather nice ashtrays and I couldn't see just throwing them in the trash. Anyone else come up with any good ideas for their old ashtrays?

i use them as processing points for carto's and various wicks,wire's and ceramics...keeps the gooey fluid in one place...and a reminder not to ever go back to the nastys.

Gah, that was my ritual every time I quit smoking, one would think it would be enough to turn me off for good but.... Nasty, nasty, nasty... Thank god I found vaping and haven't had to do that one again.

I used to use them for cartos and atties and vaping stuff but it would just turn into a sticky mess so I threw out all but one and stashed that in a cupboard

I used to wash them every week cause they got nasty. I have an old amber Glass one I still have on my night stand where I keep my watch and odds and ends because it looks nice.

Cigarette smoke smells disgusting to me these days, which is odd. Before I smoked, my father and stepfather both smoked. The scent kind of gave me a secure, "homey" feel. While I smoked, it was the same.

Afterwards? It just give me a headache.

I find the nice big crystal, glass, or metal ones hold my eGos nicely. After thirty years, I too have a handsome collection of ashtrays, now sparkling clean.
