I live in a little river town of 20,000 people. 2 months ago, the city council got together and passed a citywide smoking ban for all indoor public places (you only have to be outside 3 feet from the door, though). It was done by citywide popular vote, so the responsibility for this one lies squarely on the voters. Anyway, I was downtown today for the autumn folklife festival. People and vendors all over the street and me just strolling along intentionally making clouds. At one point I turned my head and looked at a man and lo and behold, the mayor was watching me! I shook his hand and said hello, but he was busy looking good and greeting everybody on the street, so nothing was said. I wonder, though, what is in that man's mind now? Gonna have to keep my ears open and pay attention to city leaders to make sure that evil forces don't enter the leaders' minds around here.
