That's classic RTFM material right there...at least you didn't RickRoll him.

Old thread but its 1am..... Yes I want to do the same. I need one tired of my AA explosions when I drop it:facepalm:

Expanding on what tmassey said, my first mod was a Puck in an Altoids tin with a 4xAAA box inside. I know you said AA, but for shock resistance it may be worth the change. I attached it using Velcro, a piece the same size of the box (My first thoughts were to be able to switch the box between devices). On the front is a piece of adhesive rubber strip (makes the box contact the lid of the tin to null travel when using the on/off switch). The hot glue around the wiring is obvious.

This trio of unintentional safeguards made the tin very tough. I've dropped it numerous times with no damage save scratches and minor dents.

Please excuse the ugliness of my switch hole, I used a 1/4" drill bit and a round file, the only tools on hand at the time.

Of course the AA option is still viable if you went with a larger enclosure, but much bigger than the tin starts getting awkward to hold.

I think my next project will be in an altoids tin. But after seeing the link tmassey put maybe I'll go all the way with vv. How difficult is the putting the vv board in there. I read through some of that thread and I was a little lost. The puck was stupid easy to build, and I didn't want to pay 20 bucks for a madvapes vv board.

You can use a tactile switch if you include a 10uf capacitor in the circuit. You could also include a potentiometer which would give you the VV option. This thread has the how-to. If the whole point was originally for a more rugged mod, adding more components can add more fragility. My not-so-pretty Altoids example uses AAA instead, but they still last a couple of days and I can pitch it across the room with little harm done (I've actually done this, the lid popped off but the batteries etc. were fine). That's the reason I keep it around as a back-up.

BTW- the above parts can all be found for around $1-2 each or less if you look hard enough...my most recent WIP is a VV 3.7-6v that is engaged by a mini-tactile switch - I got all of the components for less than $10US, including the batteries (2x14500 3.7v, 900mAh). I think I spent maybe an additional $7 on shipping though.

thats a good find! Will probably now spend a few hrs on fasttech now. Going to start building my altoids tin, been stuck on trying recoil a vivi nova with some nichrome wire I got from hobby king. It just doesn't/hasn't preformed well with silica wick(taste wicking), till this evening I cut a piece out of an old 100% cotton t shirt (yeah I know maybe thats gross but I'm to impatient to order anything) However it works well now, and I haven't gotten the faintest hint of tide:laugh:
