Awwwwwe, I killed my beloved passthru today. I usually have two at all times...one for my truck and one for my desk. One of my passthrus died a week or so ago and is awating replacement. I have been using one until the replacement comes in. Until today I didn't realize how short the cord actually was. I read a post here a few days ago about things that Leaford might ought to look into and saw someone request a longer cord. The length hasn't been an issue to me in the past because I used it on my computer which sat on my desk or in my car. Neither caused me to need a longer cord. I just moved and finally set up my desktop and now my computer sits on the floor next to my desk. I stood up to reach for my printer and ripped the guts right out of it. I looked down and it was a sad sight, cap, then red and black wires then switch and two ripped out wires above. Passthru body still in my hand. Gutted to the max.

The Passthru is survived by 2 auto shorties and one long manual w/5 sec cutoff.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8pm. Send cartos in lieu of flowers.
Dress will be all black batteries. :(:(

Just request another one.

Good news is, we gonna work on thicker gage wire/better connnection, larger more durable button for manual, 20 second cutoffs.....and....all other suggestions are appreciated. Oh yeah, 2 lenngths, as well:lol:

My condolences...I hope I never have to go through that.

I did see a video somewhere, where someone GENTLY wrapped a small bit of cord slack from the tip around the PT with cable ties to prevent ripping the guts out with a sudden movement. I was going to that, but my pink PT is SO PRETTY!!! I'm torn whether to do it or not. I'm just trying to be very careful.

After my pass-thru burned out, and Steve/Mark were kind enough to replace it for me,
I've not bothered with trying to wind up the slack cord. Granted, I mostly run mine through a laptop, and don't use it a WHOLE lot (I usually have my XL since I'm at work, or out and about), but mine is heading up on two weeks (more or less) and I have yet to experience a problem. I have, however, tried to walk away from my laptop while holding it.

Thank god the USB popped out instead of the insides :( that must've been a sad sight indeed.

And a coiled end for extra length and emergency shock absorption!

If you're adventurous / not risk-averse - pop the end off carefully and shoot a little hot glue in there. Before the glue sets-up, take something like a business card and scrape about an eighth of an inch clean at the end, then snap the cover back on. You can also put some hot glue from the end down around the cord to about a half inch or so. As an engineer, mine made me nervous, so the first thing I did was stress-relieve it with hot glue. Totally standard practice for engineering prototypes...

Shock absorber! Just what I need. My PC USB ports are at floor level so when I'm at my desk I tug on it every now and then but it has held up fine so far. A longer cord would not be the best solution for me. The only PT I lost was one I ran over one too many times with my office chair because it had gotten too slack. (Can't seem to get it just right), but that was 2 days after I got one as a bonus, so all is good.

The small coil would also be perfect for the PT in my van.

Every time you toss something on it, you raise it's BOM which raises retail. That said - we use a lot of these:

Very inexpensive in reasonably small MOQ

Combining those with break-aways is awesome, but break-aways raise the BOM a fair bit.
