I am one of the few and unfortunate people to have tinnitus shortly after vaping...so I need to know, has anyone out there cured the ringing by switching to juice that contains absolutely no PG? All I have read out there is that people had to end up quitting the vape to stop the tinnitus. Or the ringing would die down after switching juices. I have switched to juice from virgin vapors that contains no PG, but I am worried that I should just quit...not sure. New to this forum. I would love to hear about others experiences and what they did to solve this.

I have gotten used to the tinnitus. The only time I really hear it anymore is when I am going to sleep and the house is quiet.

I vape 70PG/30VG. I haven't tried changing my ratio. For me...it isn't that annoying.

I'm not sure if it from vaping or my years in a band and the loud music. Also, tinnitus can creep up on people as they get older. I figure mine is because of all three reasons.

I have tinnitus really bad. It sounds like a thousand crickets screaming. Lol, I don't notice it the majority of the time. I had it before I started vaping and I haven't noticed any change since. I vaped straight VG from 2009 up until this past month- I've been adding a bit of PG to see if I can tolerate it as I'll be trying out various tanks soon. No change with adding PG either. I'd never heard anything about vaping being a possible cause.

Welcome to ECF!!
Did you consider stopping for a day or 2 to see if the tinnitus goes away?

Vaping can irritate the condition of tinnitus in a small percentage of vapers.

This is a marvelous read: A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette

The section that talks about it:

PG and tinnitus
A very small number of people with pre-existing tinnitus report that vaping of PG-based refills negatively affects their condition: the tinnitus worsens. It is extremely hard to put any kind of hard number on such an effect but it must be in the region of 1 in 10,000 persons or less. This effect is believed to be due to an ototoxic effect of PG for some people and the likelihood that vapour will permeate the ENT region including the inner ear. The solution would be to change to an all-glycerine refill, which at 2015 are becoming easier to find.

I've got it too. I guess vaping caused it or made it worse. I don't notice it during the day and at night I sleep with the TV on.. youtube videos with the sound of rain, wind, thunder or water running. It's pretty bad when it's quiet (trying to go to sleep) but having the TV noise helps to the point I don't notice it unless I think about it. Long story short.. it doesn't bother me enough to quit vaping.

Thank you! And yes I did muster up the willpower to quit for 3 days and switch to the gum...didn't see significant changes. I did notice that when I switched from PG to VG only that It decreased in sound quite a bit, but did not go away completely. I have read that it took weeks for other people's ears to heal from quitting the vape, but idk...I was hoping to still be able to vape along as my juice didn't have PG, but I haven't read of anyone solving the issue by doing that! So sad cause I do enjoy the vape.

I had tinnitus for over 15 years, bad enough that the med. tech would ask if I had it during hearing tests.
I started taking vitamin A (beta carotene) for night blindness.
Several months later my night vision had improved a great deal but I'm not sure when I stopped having tinnitus, it just went away.
This was 15+ years ago, it has not come back but I did find a essay on it (take it with more than 2 grains of salt:confused:)
Lack Of Vitamin A May Be Overlooked Root Of Tinnitus And Hearing Loss

Just got my first case of tinnitus actually. Was pretty convinced it was due to a ruptured ear drum, I've had two events in the past month or two that left me holding my ears in pain.

Had no clue this had anything to do with vaping, ever. Ugh I really hope mine is a busted ear drum that will heal because I'm not stopping vaping anytime soon.

I've had tinitis off & on for years, but vaping definately brings it on full steam for me. I vape 60pg 40vg DIY and I can hear the tinitis come on like a light switch when I start vaping in the AM. A radio playing in the background can help mask it. When I'm busy I don't even notice it, mostly in the AM and late at night. I can't tolerate any higher VG than about 40% because I get a heavy chest and a congested feeling so I just deal with it. For me it's the price I pay for not smoking and hacking all the time from the damage done to my lungs from over 30 years at 2+ packs a day of the death sticks. I can live with a little ringy zingy in my ears...

Have you tried drinking lots of water while vaping? I've read that the heavy chest could be linked to not drinking enough H2O...supposedly it dehydrates the sinuses.

Now this has me completely curious. Those with tinnitus did you get it only when you started vaping?
For me, the tinnitus showed up out of the blue two weeks after starting the vape. It took me two months for me to realize that it could be the vape...haven't been exposed to loud noises or anything...went to Dr. And she just kinda threw antibiotics at the situation, didn't seem to change anything for me.. I just want my silence back lol!

I feel you...maybe have a doc check out your eardrum? Loud noises can def bring on the Mr. T.

I drink water and tea constantly throughout the day, the heavy chest is 100% VG related. I discovered it early on as I started with 70pg 30 vg juice and didn't have any issues at all, as stuff started being offered in 50/50 and higher VG blends I started using them, it only took a very short while before I developed a cough and felt like my lungs were loaded up. I just can't tolerate too much VG. even 50/50 gets to me. Then I began DIYing and reduced the VG till the affects were gone. I've been solely DIY for a couple years now.
