Hi, I have a Kanger Mini Pro tank 2 on a vv v3.0. I made my a coil using 30 gauge kanthal. I used 100% organic cotton. I did 6 wraps and it came out to 1.4 ohms. I put a piece of cotton through the coil and a couple on top. I am having major gurgling and leaking onto the battery post. I am thinking maybe I need to just use silica wick. While I am happy the coil I made is firing, I am also frustrated that I can't get a good vape. I just get a mouthful of juice......:(

What am I doing wrong?

First... you might want to understand how a "pressure differential" atomizer works. The key issue you're dealing with is that in a PD atty, the wick also functions as a seal.

I haven't rebuilt that tank, but you might be overwicked. That is, pulling more juice into the chamber than your coil can handle. If it was me, I might try ditching one or both of the flavor wicks and see what happens. Maybe someone who's rebuilt this will chime in.

I just pulled the couple of wicks of the top of coil and that seems to have solved the problem. Thank You!

to ecf Red Head . Congrats on the coil. Isn't it a wonderful feeling to do it yourself? Good luck to you and happy vaping. :)

Great! Congrats on the first coil. Rebuilding starts out kind of slow as you figure it out, but it gets pretty easy and fast once the learning curve levels out. It's a real money saver and you'll get much better vape than stock coils. Keep it up!

Nah, cotton's the way to go. It's a similar situation with my EVODs though. Cotton expands once it absorbs juice. You really only need the single wick through the coil, I found this out after being in the same boat as you.

Spot check the following links:

I don't use flavor wicks on my cotton coils. I just find a tiny wisp of cotton (no bigger than my pinkie fingernail) is more than enough.

I've had the same problem when I've used too much cotton on the flavor wick. It just absorbs and transfers too much juice to the coil. I've had it expand into a circular blob inside when you take the air tube off. The trick it is to use the minimum size that will seal the holes on each side. Juice it up before you install the air tube and you can see how it expands. If you leave open places in the wick slots where juice can drip into the coil area you also get gurgles. If you don't use a flavor wick the slot still has to be filled after the air tube is installed. It's a right size issue. Too much, too little and problems occur.

I use cotton in a slip fit size on the coil and one rope of 2mm silica on the flavor wick. Install the air tube and use a toenail clipper to trim each side even with the metal disc (the one with the silicone gasket) below the cutouts. The 2mm silica rope size works for me.

It's still a trial and error situation when you first start building. Eventually, you will get it right. From then on it's a matter of repeating what works best.

Here's Rip Trippers doing a recoil on your Mini Protank using cotton.
