Ok, I have employed a combination of ideas presented here and have solved my tight spring problem. First I removed one full coil from spring, tested, and decided it was still a bit tight. I then superheated the remaining coil several times, turning it white hot and letting it cool. This did it. Spring more flexible, and east to press, much like my precise spring. Can now fire using the base of my little finger rather than needing my palm or multiple fingers. When standing it still does not fire the device, but I will likely use the locking ring more. Thanks again for the ideas and solve.

Just pay attention to the resistance of the spring, granted now that you heaed it, it will lose some tension, however it also will lose its spring back effect as you use it.

When you heat a spring to soften the tension, you also need to quench it in oil. That will make it keep the spring effect!!

Hmmm, didn't do the oil quench, I'll have to keep an eye out for future problems.
