I had to run an errand and left "the teenager" in charge of things. (yes, I know big mistake but I was gone less than an hour) I asked him if he could feed the younger kids lunch, just make some noodles for them, easy enough right?

Well, for my youngest son "the teenager" actually made the noodles in the microwave, then when my daughter wanted noodles he said she could make them herself. He told her to put them in the microwave and then told her how long to set it for, and that is EXACTLY what she did, no one mentioned to her that she needed to add water. She's 10 I always thought she was a bright child until this, (really she my smart child, I'm scared now) and my son "the teenager", really could you have at least looked up and seen what she was doing before the smoke and fire?

Anyway the house and that microwave have this horrible burnt smell in it. How can I get the smell out of that microwave? Nothing is working, I've wiped it down already with baking soda, and I've boiled water with a lemon in it. It just keeps putting out this burnt smell.

I could almost live with the lovely off white color the inside of the microwave is now, but that smell has got to go.

This microwave is only a year old, and I warned my DH that if and when this one brakes I will not buy another one. (I don't like microwaves)

Please tell me I am not the 1st person have something burned in the microwave? Anyone have other ideas on how to ge this smell to go away.

thanks you.

I once put one of those seedy bags that are used like a heating pad. You warm them in the micro. I set the timer for too long and it started to smoke and let me tell you it STUNK!!

I don't remember how I got the stink out but I'm thinking vinegar. Try wiping it with vinegar first and if that doesn't work then nuke the vinegar so it boils. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone, the vinegar helped some but it's still there. I'm working through this list now, and I'm trying the vanilla thing.

I also realized I left the filter on the top part of the microwave that has the charcoal in it. We vent our microwave to the outside but it's there for people who can't vent out. I wonder if it has that smell in it now too, I'm thinking I should just get a new filter.

I'll let you know what worked for me.

Just to give you ladies and update.

The next thing I tried was straight up vinegar. I'm a big white vinegar fan for cleaning, and I really thought by nuking it for 5 minutes and then letting it sit that would cure my problem. When I tried it I ended up with a vinegar burnt smokie smell. UGH.

I then tried water with vanilla, I added some cloves, and cinnamon to make a little potpourri. That actually seems to be doing a better job, it's still kind of there but so much better. For now I'm just going to leave that potpourri water in there and maybe tonight put in the box of backing soda.

thanks MK for the links, they really helped.

Thank you class that's a great idea. I will try that tonight, if I remember that works with furniture that smells funny too. Stuff the drawers with newspapper.

Darn kids, but I'll let them live, I hope all my kids have lots and lots of children someday.

My thoughts would be the vinegar boiling too...and then a vanilla boil...

Try the tupperware trick and stuff it with newspaper overnight and let the newspaper absorb the odor....??
