I need something other than the Joye eGo and DeKang e-juice.

I've been vaping for a good two years, maybe longer. I vape a lot - all day at work, in the car - I am hooked into my vape most of the day. As someone living in Australia, for QUITE some time now I have been purchasing joye eGos and the dekang style of Menthol ejuice, as this is mostly what is available to me. I've tried a multitude of flavors, and several different types of e-cigarettes, and I am generally happy with the way things are going.

As I've been doing this (eGo + menthol) for over a year now, seven days a week, my main concern is that I MAY be missing out on awesome new things that have developed in the "e-cig" world that I'm not aware of due to my complacency with my current setup.

I look at all these vendors in the US and think, "Wow, there sure are a lot of e-juice makers." They are definitely more expensive than the Chinese, but I'm wondering... would anyone like to recommend to me:

  • a different style of e-cig that might produce a better, more flavorful vapor than the eGo?
  • a different Menthol?
I'm cool, I guess, keeping my eGo, as a have a lot of spare atomisers and batteries and overall it's a great e-cig that I never have to charge more than once a day, but what I really want is a more flavorful juice... I think my tastebuds are just becoming numb to what I've been smoking, and I'm not getting as much of a kick like I used to. (I smoke 18mg pretty much standard.) I smoke menthol about 90% of the time, as I have historically liked the kick it gives me in my throat. Since I'm in Australia, the only stores I've found that will ship inexpensively to Aus are in China, and they only stock one kind of juice. I want to buy some stuff from America, I don't mind the shipping costs, and I'm willing to try any number of different menthols, as long as they come highly recommended.

On a side note, I feel like most of the juices I used to get a lot of flavor/feeling out of I'm just not anymore - like RY4, Strawberry, Tobacco... they don't seem to DO anything to me anymore, just menthol, that's why I seem to use it so often.... I'd like to fix this situation, but I'm not sure if I'm just vaping too much, and that's why juice doesn't seem to have much of an effect on me anymore, or whether it's just that my body and tongue are just too used to the same things over and over.

Anyone willing to help a fellow vaper out?

Brian

I would like to recommend a lot of different types of juice vendors to you. Unfortunately I'm not sure how many are willing to ship outside of the U.S. You can always email them and see if there is something that can be worked out. For a menthol, BWB Menthol Tobacco (strong) is fairly good as well as Cowboy Menthol from Titan Vapors. I'm sure there are many out there but, these two are what I enjoy the most.

Just about any mod is better then an ego. My two recommendations are the Provari V2 and REO. Both are on top of the vaping world right now for VV tube mods and bottom feeding box mods.

With a VV mod. You can either increase or decrease the voltage to find your sweet spot. Bottom feeders are ideal for people that don't want to carry around extra bottles and cartos. All they need is in the mod already. Which makes it highly convenient. Also, they are made for people that don't like the hassle of dripping but still wants all the benefits associated to it.

I cant tell you what juices you might like or not like, but I started with a volt and then moved on to the KGO and I hated filling up cartos, so I went to a bottom feeder and absolutely love it!
As for the juice tastes, I have 2 or 3 that I vape pretty much all the time, I found out if I switched em up from time to time that I could taste them alot better.
I have also read alot about VV and finding your sweet spot, I hope to get a VV bottomfeeder at some point and time and see if there is any difference.

Why is that? Is it the battery, or the atomiser? I'm generally using 510 atomisers because I find I can get better quality with the smaller atomiser, filling up the cart every 20 minutes or so with a few drops, than I can using a larger atomiser/cart that holds more juice.

What is the benefit of having a battery whose voltage I can increase/decrease at will? How would using a battery (wow, expensive!) whose voltage I can modify make my vaping experience better?

Thanks for the reply on the juices - I'll just buy some and have them shipped domestic, then shipped to me in Aus from there. :)

What exactly is a bottom feeder? and what is a "VV?" I can see lots of various posts about it from a search on Google, but no one seems to explain what it is - just how happy they were to get theirs. :)

You can possibly re-set your tongue with a cinnamon vape (if you don't hate cinnamon that is). Works for a lot of folks.

I believe I can get cinnamon here in Australia, so I will definitely buy some in my next run. If I don't like it, I'll keep in my big box of unused flavors that I turn to when I'm out of the stuff I like. :) Thanks for the tip!

There are a lot of "not better than your eGo" mods out there IMO. Some take batteries that won't last a full 3 hours, some are just built badly, some require you to stack batteries to achive higher or different voltages. Finding you something better than your eGo is going to depend on what you would like that your eGo isn't giving you. Variable voltage is a beautiful thing IMO, but it's not for every single vaper. I like tuning in the voltage for different ohm cartos/attys and different flavors of juice. That said...I'm sick of cartos and attys and will be moving on to rebuilable atomizers/hybrid PV's...again....not for every single vaper. So, really...what is it you'd like to get from your PV? This is what I'm looking forward to:

It works like this:

The more power a battery sends to the coil the more juice that can be vaporized.
power = watts
More volts = more watts = more hit, vapor and flavor.
Lower ohms = more watts = more hit and vapor and flavor.

With the same voltage you will get a lot more hit and smoke with a 2.0 ohm cartomizer than with a 3.0 ohm cartomizer. Low ohm cartos also need to wick fast enough to keep up with the larger amount of juice being vaporized.

If you are going to use 2.0 ohm or lower you need a large battery for safety, battery life and just the ability to deliver enough current to a low ohm cartomizer. Using more watts will also drain your battery faster.

With vv you can just change the voltage instead of trying five different ohm cartos.

There is also the lavatube and it's a lot cheaper than the Provari. It's still new and unproven for longevity and not made as well but for the price may be worth it.

When I look at something like this, http://sweetvapes.com/Mods.aspx , my first thought is "holy crap that looks complicated." I vape because it's simple. I want to screw on my atomiser, and use it for four weeks without having to think about what I'm doing. I fill it up when it needs it, and I throw the atomiser away when it stops procuding good quality vapor. The only thing I feel I'm lacking is taste. I want more taste out of my juices.

I think the main reason I asked my question was because I wasn't sure whether or not my lack of flavor was coming from the juice, or from the e-cig itself. I like the fact that my ego is portable, it easily lasts all day, and I don't mind dripping juice into the carts. I've tried low-voltage atomisers (I think that's what they're called,) and I find they burn juice REALLY quickly and always taste really harsh on my throat, so I went back to normal 510 atomisers.

What makes variable voltage (thanks for the definition btw) a good thing to you? If I could get a battery that I could use with my current 510 atomisers and carts, that would allow me to tweak that voltage for a better vaping experience, then leave it there, I would probably do that - as I mostly smoke only one juice, and I tend to only use one type of atomiser and cartridge.

What brand of atomizers are you using? Joye have been pretty good to me for flavor. If taste is all you're lacking...stick with the eGo and try a differnt brand of atomizer...or maybe try the 306 atomizer (has the same threads as the 510). Do a bit of experimenting there.

Variable voltage works really well for me for the reasons I stated before, and also because you may buy a 3ohm atomizer and it may very well be 3ohms when you get it...and after a week of use, it may have changed that number a bit. You can then up or down the voltage to get back to that happy vaping place. ;)

Oh oh, and also: Bottom feeder mods are about the easiest thing in the world to use, though not so compact. This is my own video showing how easy it is to set mine up and once this is done, I'm vaping the whole day without having to do another thing (um, except push the bottle to make juice go up into the atomizer when it needs it):

It's neither, Traver has given you a very good explanation of some of the variables associated with getting a good vape.

An ego can only produce 3.4V. Granted it has pulse-width modulation which keeps it at that voltage until the battery dies. Now, there are big batts such as the Riva or Kgo that gives you a higher voltage. It's not really about the battery as it is with the mod itself and what it can do. But, some mods do a much better job at transferring the power from the battery to your atomizer/cartomizer. Thus, giving you better TH and vapor. Taste is always subjective and will depend highly on your atomizer and juice.

Although, different atomizers give of varying amounts of flavor. Here's a list of atomizers that have the most flavor, least TH, and warmth. To the least amount of flavor, most TH, and warmth:

901, 801, 510, 306

This will give you an idea on what direction that you want to take when looking at atomizers. With a VV mod, if you were ever un-satisfied with a certain voltage. Then all you have to do is increase or decrease it. To get to a point to where you are satisfied with the flavor, vapor, TH, and warmth that is being produced. Without having to change batteries, atomizers and such. Also, it's regulated voltage. Meaning that it will stay at that particular voltage without dropping off when the battery is decreasing in power. Much like what your ego is doing but, at a more advanced level. It will definitely improve on your experience due to convenience. Might not actually make it better. Since I can use a fixed voltage like a REO at 3.7V with a LR atty and be just as satisfied. As using my Provari V2 with a carto tank.

It really comes down to how well you know your preferences in vaping. That will depend if you enjoy this or that but, you will have to try it out first. If you never did before to understand which on you prefer. Or for someone like me, then you can enjoy both a fixed and a variable voltage mod.

Anyways, no problem. Just trying to help out.

If you get the right juice, an Ego will pump out more than enough good vapor. I tried some Dekang recently and it was like I couldn't tell if the PV was turned on or not, the vapor was so anemic.

If you are still looking for an inexpensive upgrade, I'd go to a Kgo (3.7v) with Boge 2.0 ohm LR cartos. That extra wattage combined with quality juice will give you plenty of vapor.

From what I can see from the posts above this, my eGo battery is already 3.4v - and I have a few low resistance 510 atomisers sitting around - which I assume would be 2.0 ohms. I think the most scientific way of doing this is to try and get some good, quality juice, test it out, see if I see a difference, then rinse and repeat with some different hardware using both juices. At least that's what the scientist (or 3rd grade science student) in me wants to do.

Do you have a link for this KGO and Boge stuff? I'll definitely look into it.

Also - what does "LR" stand for in your above message? And - if you find Dekang anemic - which juice would you recommend? We have SUCH a limited choice here in Australia, but I'll pay shipping for something from the States if I need to and just buy in bulk.

This looks great. Your entire reply was really useful! Would a 901 atomiser work with my Joye eGo battery?

No problem at all and I'm glad that you have found it useful. Yes, a 901 atomizer would work with an ego battery. I would suggest that you get a drip shield with it. Since the primary problem with them is there are little holes in the barrel of the atomizer that causes it to leak. So, that's why the drip shield was created. Plus, it looks good too:

One thing you could do as a simple test would be to dilute some Dekang down with glycerin (available at the local chemist's, I believe for skin care). Try four parts e-liquid one part glycerin. See how the vapor production is from that, how it feels, etc.

LR stands for low resistance, so "LR 2 ohm" is possibly redundant (a standard resistance cartomizer is around 2.6ohm I think?)

Hope this helps.

901 will work with your ego...but you'll need a 510 to 901 adapter. They are threaded differently.

Adding the glycerin to your juice will up the vapor and down the flavor, so just a heads up there. I thought you were experiencing a lack of flavor...not a lack of vapor. Is it both?
