GB, a BIG congratulations to you!! You quit it all, and that's super! It was a fun, rewarding journey, wasn't it!!?

Seems to me that while this is a vaping forum, it is a great support group for those quitting smoking, and I don't see why it can't be the same for those who want to quit vaping as well. I think of it as my "quit smoking support group" more than I see it as my "vaper support group", although it is both.

For those who want to vape for the rest of their lives, that's fine; but please don't criticize those who do not wish to do so. :?:

No intention to quit, myself. I like vaping....I like a cup of coffee now and then too....Addicted to a chemical in both....still..I do enjoy it. When the negatives outweigh the positives perhaps I will rethink this. But..not in the planned future...

Either way...Congratulations...you did what you wanted! Very cool!

No offence, but one day you will be back.

That was my thought. I've seen so many posts here that say, "I quit smoking by vaping, then I quit vaping, then I started smoking again.. so now I'm back, and ready to quit smoking AGAIN and vape some more." Everytime I hear of someone quitting vaping, I just wonder how long till they're smoking again.

Once an addict, always an addict. The ONLY "cure" for an alcoholic is total abstinence, and that can be really hard; I don't really think much about drinking after nearly 22 yrs sober, but I know all it would take is one drink, and I'd be off to the races again. With e-cigs, it doesn't have to be total abstinence for smokers, which makes it SOOOO much easier. Always far easier to replace an addiction with something else, than to go the total abstinence route.

If vaping till the day I die can a) keep me from smoking, and b) keep me from ever WANTING to smoke again... well then I'll vape till I die.

What this really reminds me of, is the sober alcoholic who's just reached his 1 year chip, and announces he's not going to AA anymore, because now HE'S CURED! For a while he won't even drink... but eventually, he will; he finds a "good reason" why drinking is warranted, or expected, or just part of the socializing, or god bless america, he NEEDS a drink. 50/50 at that point that he'll live to ever make it back to AA. I don't care for those odds myself.

Well, I finally quit vaping.
It's been a long journey but I've been stopped completely for 3 weeks now. That was always my intention and I'll often look back fondly at my vaping memories and remember how it helped me quit smoking.

Well done! Always good to achieve what you set out to do, no matter what that something is.

How long since you gave up cigarettes?

I never planned to stop smoking cigarettes almost 11 weeks ago, but somehow I did, and do hope to reduce the liquid nicotine down to zero eventually - didn't plan to do that either, but having some issues with PG, and now flavouring causing me breathing problems if I inhale too much, I think I may have to at some point.
It was a no-brainer before, and I never even considered stopping once I'd found this happy alternative, but now I'm having to consciously be very careful with inhalation, so stopping eventually may be necessary sadly!
Using mostly 0.6 to 1.0 now, so it'll take a while :) ..one day I'll perhaps get to where you have!

I suspect though, it wasn't as good for me as I'd like to believe, and that's a hard thing to admit, like any addiction I suppose.

My message to you folks is don't forget why you're here, and don't give up giving up. The vaping community has been good to me and I wish it well. Vaping works as a smoking cessation device, but it's ultimately only better for your health if you stop doing it eventually.

I think it is GREAT that you quit since that is what you wanted. a big CONGRATS to you. Nicotine is damn hard to kick

That being said, your last sentence is your opinion and is not likely correct. I see no reason to stop vaping, I love it, it's a relatively inexpensive hobby and I haven't seen any reliable proof that it poses any risks to my health. This is just my opinion, so I say vape on!

PLOS ONE: Metal and Silicate Particles Including Nanoparticles Are Present in Electronic Cigarette Cartomizer Fluid and Aerosol

link is just in reference to cartos. There might be other dangers in relation to inhaling stuff from the actual wicks and coils but nothing confirmed safe or not safe.

I plan to keep on vaping. The risk is miniscule compared to the risk of cigarettes. i just don';t use cartos anymore.

This is an interesting discussion. I quit smoking for 13 years. Started back for 3. Started vaping a year ago. I really think I could go 0 nic right now. I can't say for sure, but it seems the ritual of it is what I might be addicted to. Very calming. If quitting vaping is it for you, awesome for you. If it's not for me, awesome for me. :) I DO get somewhat tired of answering the question How's quitting going? since I didn't start vaping to quit and am not trying to stop vaping.

I don't use the word quit or addiction. They are hallow terms have little real meaning. I smoked for years at a time. I stopped for years at a time. The word quit implies never again. If you have only stopped for a month, that's great if that is your need, but don't think you are out of the woods yet if you ever liked to smoke. I always liked to smoke myself, but the side effects are nasty in time. At this point in my life, if I can, I will vape into the future because I like it and my body is felling fine. So I shall vape on.

I don't actually plan to quit vaping, but at some point I expect that I will cut way back on it. Evenings only, or just intermittent use.

I find that some days, I vape a lot less than other days. I went to a festival yesterday down at the waterfront and spent most of the day bar hopping. I had my PV and only took 220 puffs from 7AM yesterday until about 1:30 AM today. I was constantly walking through crowds of smokers, and my wife was smoking as well. "We" quit together on November 1st last year - her idea. I am the one that didn't want to quit, and now I am the one that still hasn't had a cigarette since 11-6-13. I had no issues whatsoever. Not a single craving, or "I want a cigarette" moment. I really feel like I've got them beat. However, if I were to stop vaping right now, I am sure that those would come back. For me, I think it is the physical act of smoking that had me hooked. It certainly was not the taste, and based on the fact that I vaped 0 nic for 10 days straight less than 8 weeks after switching to vaping it was probably not the nicotine either.

At any rate, I eventually want to get to the point where I vape every once in a while as a treat to myself. I will always have a PV around "just in case". I do know one thing, I will never smoke again as long as I have this wonderful alternative.
