I thought that might get someones attention... quit what you ask?
October 10, 2009 I recieved an awesome Titan 510 set from Totally Wicked. It took a lot of research to find what I wanted and everyone was 510 crazy at that point. At 23 years old I had almost been smoking 10 years and was up to a very consistent 2 packs a day. I ALWAYS had a cigarette. When I found the ecig I think I tried it more for the aesthetic "Look what I can do" factor of it. My husband was griping about the house smelling like cigarettes, and even worse he said my baby smelled like smoke and he didn't like taking her every where. (Yes, I smoked around the baby..I know..hell and all, right?) I figured I would try it and at least use it sometimes in the house to get him off my @$$ for lack of a better way to word it.
Within 3 days I was down to about 5 analogs a day. Some days I had to scour the forums for hints, tricks, and tips because it seemed to finickyto make it work in the beginning. Some days I think I sat here for hours educating myself on my new little toy. At the end of the first week, I would light an analog, take a few puffs, and though it was slightly enjoyable ultimately put it out and leave half because they were starting to taste horrible. Then I would go in and vape some to get the rest of my nicotine fix. I was down to just a couple a day.. that was a number I hadn't seen since the day I started. I NEVER went without cigarettes. It took some work on my part, but I found my preferred juices, I mastered A FEW different blue foam methods, I had a stock of extra parts and pieces, the items needed to clean everything, a travel kit and eventually even a chuck for when I left my house for significant periods of time.
I had mastered the system and was set to go for the long haul. After 1 month I didn't even bother trying to light a cigarette.. My loves had become downright repulsive. I couldn't light one and hit it, it was HORRIBLE AND TASTED LIKE ...! I was analog free. I am not going to say life changed dramatically. But my husband (who chews, doesn't smoke) LOVED the ecig, encouraged everythign about it even the over shopping to find my likes and dislikes. He loved that I didn't stink, when I was "smoking" he couldn't smell me doing it anymore, and that I didn't taste like an ashtray. Success, how could it get any better right?
.......2-3 months in?? PREGNANT.. I really wonder if they are right and analogs decrease fertility, the timing always seemed a little... convenient. Either way, baby #3 was on the way. Here's where everyone gets an attitude and gets huffy, but I openly admit to smoking thru my first two kids. I may have slowed down to a pack a day or so with both, but that's as good as it gets with someone with ZERO impulse control. I wasn't even one to hide it, I was a truely dedicated analog smoker. I never had a problem smoking analogs while pregnant besides for the doctor constantly hooting about it. But now, I am technically a non-smoker. I vaped in the beginning then morning sickness took hold in the worst way and I tried to pick the ecig up once or twice every couple hours, I would hit it a few times and have to put it down, the juice made me naseous. Hit ecig.. gag.. hit it, gag. I tried, but that just wasn't working. My attempts went from every couple hours, to a few hours, to every couple days.
Then I realized, hell, its been a week or two since I've even looked at that e-cig.. so I packed it away just in case and began to enjoy a TOTALLY nicotine free existence. I never in a million years thought I would be able to say that. I remember previous attempts to quit analogs when I was 19 or so that ended up with me wearing a patch, chewing the gum, puffing on a nicotrol inhaler, WHILE trying to find my lighter so I could SMOKE! I know I had some help with the little munchkin on the way, I am greatful for that, but really, the ecig was MUCH easier to put down than analogs. If I were still smoking analogs when I had gotten pregnant, I would be dumping my ashtray right now.
Hopefully at this point you aren't wondering what the point of this story is. I really just wanted to come back to the forum for a minute and tell people my story because there were SO many times in the beginning I wondered if this would work. There might be someone out there that is wondering if their ecig is worth the hassle, or if they work, or if people ever quit vaping without going right back to analogs.
The ecig was the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. I tried it on a whim, not even WANTING it to work really, and I can say I haven't had a cigarette (real or fake) in going on a year and a half. The best part is when you try to quit cold turkey, you crave that cigarette.. they are awesome, you need just 1 more and then you are done; when you switch to an e-cig you have a bit of clarity because you are still getting the drug your body is used to but you can see, taste, smell and feel that analogs are dirty little creatures. You get that adjustment period that helps clear your head on the cigarettes are good mentality and thankfully I can say I have ZERO cravings for any sort of cigarette because I got to experience the "YUCK THAT TASTE LIKE ... HOW DID I EVER START SMOKING." effect.
If you are questioning your decision, give it another try, its really worth the work and pain in the .... that they can be sometimes, you'll get the hang of it and if nothing else, within a few months you will stand behind someone at the store and realize that you weren't foolin anyone. My husband was right, I stank and I am happy he griped so much about it because now none of us smell like ashtrays any more. Thanks to this forum for keeping me going when I wanted to give up and being a staple of support and advice. I couldn't have made my ecig work without this board and I am so happy to have this new life. All I need to do now is get rid of this extra 50 pounds and life is good. I just hope my story might be able to help someone, I will check back **if anyone bothered reading** to see if there's any questions or hate mail or anything, ha ha. Good luck everyone!
