I really want to start DIY. How realistic is it to match my ADV?

I can see how DIY would be a snap for basic flavors like fruits and berries. Unfortunately I dont care for basic flavors. I dont like sweet or fruity flavors for more than 2 min. What I like are tobaccos, HHV tobaccos to be precise. My ADVs are huntsman, Legend and heavenly tobacco. I realize HHV does not leave their recipes lying around, and they shouldn't. They must have worked really hard to come up with such superb flavors. Im wondering how difficult it would be to come up with extremely similar flavors myself. I dont want to practice for 6 months before I get it right. I dont want to waste tons of money before I get it right either.
I guess my question is, How difficult is making a similar tobacco? Is their tons of trial and error, practice and patients involved? Can I order Very similar flavorings premixed and ready to go or do I have to order all the complex flavors in the juice and come up with my own?

You newbies are so lucky. When I started vaping the best tobaccos tasted like the mixer only tasted good tobacco while sitting in the bottom of a busy outhouse with a 7 week old sweat sock for a hat.

So I started DIY to make a good Cuban cigar that actually tasted like a Cuban cigar. It took me 5 months to figure it out, but I did it and it's still one of my favorite recipes. Of course I discovered many other recipes while trying to figure it out, but none of them are as typical in my rotation as my Cuban.

Since I've never tried your juice I have no idea how difficult it would be to reproduce nor do I know if you're as picky as I am.

You could browse some the recipes others have tried. In the end it comes down to trial and error, always make small batches first and allow them to steep. You may never clone your favorite vape completely, however you stumble on something along the way that you really like.

You can tie up a decent size chunk of change in different flavor concentrates, some which you may never use more than a few times. DIY has its own rewards though, I am still looking for that perfect combination, but I have found a couple that I like and make in 30 mil batches.

Good luck, and it takes time and patience.

There is no such thing as a magic bullet when it comes to DIY... Too many variables - including individual taste... What may be a killer <fill in the blank> tobacco flavor to one person may taste like a dirty ol' sweat sock to someone else... Best thing to do is browse the recipes and pick out a couple that sound interesting, get the flavors you need for each one, and have at it... Be prepared, though, to allow for a nice long steep to let the essences of the juice come together -- 3 -5 weeks...

My personal experience is that I can whip up a nice new vape for my wife and her friends with no probs at all... Mix and vape the same day with no complaints while I'm still waiting to concoct a moderately decent tobacco vape for myself... Oh well, the journey continues... :(

This. Its why I quit vaping for a year, and also why I prefer DIY over buying juices, and because it makes me feel special.

ps. it is possible to accurately clone vendors mixes.

The HHV juices you mention are in house tobacco extracts, not sure you could mimic them with just flavors. That's not to say you can't come up with some juices you like equally well, they just won't be the same. You can also do tobacco extracts much easier than I expected. I've got some really good results with cigar extracts, better than my results with flavors so far.

LOL! With the offers I get for my Cuban and White Peach recipes, It'd be pretty funny if I posted them. And you'll note that I don't post many recipes at all. Just the blogs to give an idea of how I came up with what I've discovered.

Sorry... I was just asking. I know you're a vendor. I was going to order from you last week but you were out of what I wanted. And now I won't be ordering from you in the future...

Good luck with all those offers.

No, I'm not a vendor. You're probably confusing me with Joe at Hoosier Vapes. I'm Hoosier, the president of the Hoosier Vapers club and couldn't even serve on the council if I was in the vaping business, let alone be elected president. Check out my signature and find out about the club.

If you have any questions about vendors in the state, I probably know them, but since Hoosier means someone from Indiana, there are quite a few Hoosier and they are a common sight around here.

And if me refusing to give away my favorite recipes makes you dislike me, that's great. Have Fun with that.

Thepinfamily, DIY is a strange thing. If you want to exactly replicate something you could take years and still never manage it. You'll soon find that adding a certain flavour will sometimes give you totally different end results than you imagine. I think most here will back me up and say the majority of good mixes are a perfect accident (which I believe Hoosier is touching upon in his first post) which highlights the need to keep notes on everything you do. With all the variables of percentages, steeping, not steeping etc etc.
My advice would be to get started and not take it too seriously........you may well find an even better ADV in the process :)

Thanks for all the insight everyone. You answered my questions perfectly. I know replicating a recipe perfectly is near impossible even if you have the correct ingredients. You made me realize the juice I like is not made entirely with flavorings but also with tobacco extracts. Thats not something I want to even get into. I have another hobby that takes up a lot of my time. I really don't even have time to play with mods and rebuild attys. I enjoy it, it keeps me off the analogs and saves me money so ill keep doing it. The DIY ill leave for you guys......for now.

 Now I feel like we put you off. Well I hope you give it a try sometime even if just to have a go and satisfy your curiosity.

Don't give up on DIY. I've spent six months trying to clone my purchased ADV. I still have to and will continue to buy it because I doubt I'll ever succeed and am not willing to stop vaping it. But, in those months trying, I've create some juices I really, really, like and will continue making/vaping... so I DO save money with my fillins. Will I give up trying to clone the "special" one... nope... and I'll still hope to stumble on it someday.

I won't ask you for the White Peach recipe, but I would like you to describe it.

I'm had really good results with Vapingzone tobacco flavors. If you ask me, HHV seems to be a more pipe tobacco based line of juices. I would start with the Black Cigar which I would compare to their Dragon's Fire flavor. Perhaps mixing with a lighter tobacco flavor would help reach your taste preference.

These flavors are alc. based and are usually mixed at 2-3%. No steep time is needed, I usually just give mine a hot bath.

I don't vape tobacco or DIY it so i cannot help you there. However, what I have learned by doing DIY is what each flavor tastes like. I can now pick that up in vendor juices. I can now confident enough to try some more complex stuff. It is reallyall about trial and error, but flavoring is not all that expensive,
