I set off a smoke detector!

LOL!!! I wonder what those things are detecting in the air. But I set off my mother in laws the other day with my vapor. I was standing directly underneath it, fixing wires on the back of her tv. It's a hardwired one, if that happens to make a difference.

So everyone, for future reference, YES- vapor can set off a smoke detector.

It depends on the type of smoke detector, I think. Some detect 'non-transparency' of air and some detect, uh... something else. LOL! I don't really understand it, but I know DH and I looked it up at one point and that's all I remember.

I tried it as ours is hardwired also , stood up on chair blew clouds of vapor at it and it would not go off.
Then almost broke my neck getting down from computer chair that easliy swings what a rush that was.

I have read that some detectors wil be set off my the vapor from a PV. I have not tried it one mine yet. But, I am curious so I may try.

LOL Diesel! My mother in laws were part of the house when it was made, 20 someodd years ago. I'm sure they don't work the samel way as the newer ones. I have yet to try mine. I can't ever get them to shut off, short of beating the crap out of them, so I don't really want to do that anytime soon. It scares the bijinkies out of the kids and dog, and then my bird starts squaking.

I know crazy glue and also dust sets off some smoke detectors also...........never tried vapor b4.

Dont worry about it.... in my house the detector goes off with the vapor from the hot shower
