I've been analog free for a while now and I can't stand the smell in my car from 10 years of smoking in it. I've been emptying bottles of frebreeze in my Jeep Wrangler and that only works for a few days before the stench resurfaces. Any tricks on getting rid of it permanently? I guess I'm luckier than most in that I can remove the top to have it air out, but it still stinks.

Have you tried to shampoo the carpets and seats?? I know when I smoked, I had mine about year to cut back on the stinch. I started vapeing about 2 months after I got my new car so it wasn't too hard to get the smell out. I've also heard white vinegar helps. Wash down the interior with it maybe...............I know it's hard to get out of the a/c system. Good luck and congrats on being .... free :D

A real interior detailing will help with everything except the vents.

Those smoke solids are on your glass, in your plastic, and deep in your fabric. The more you can get out, the better.

Sunshine helps kill odors too, but it is tough on plastic and cloth.

Renting an ozone generator could be a last resort. (Ozone is tough on plastic too.) Read warnings before hooking up machine...

Taking a box of baking soda or grinding up some charcoal and leaving it in your car can help. Just take out the box after a few days/weeks and replace it with a new one. Taking your car to get the inside washed is also a good idea. Not sure if you canget the smell 100% out as it would be all in the AC too :/ GL to you.

I'd agree with the baking soda idea too...

It WILL be in your ventilation system. Take your car in and get an A.C. deodorizer done. I used to work as a Service Advisor for Ford and I know thats what the Sales Dept did with vehicles coming in off lease. Should run you some where in the neighborhood of 20.00-30.00, if you find it especially bothersome :)

I'm in the same boat. The brand new car smell wore off and I started smoking in mine. Four years later it has a funk. I'm looking into an enzyme solution to put in the vents as well as on the seats; well, anything that's cloth really. Enzymes bust through smell as well. They use it in hospitals to disinfect.

UGH I CAN'T POST LINKS YET, lol.

There's great instructions on eHow. Google "cleaning enzymes for your car." :D

Your never going to get rid of 10 years of smoke from a vehicle. But you can knock it down quite a bit with a three step process. Start with a shampooing of all fabric including the headliner. A detailers secret is to soak a couple of sponges in white vinegar place them in a couple of bowls with another inch of vinegar in each. Place those bowls on the floor, roll the windows up and let the vehicle sit over the weekend. It will smell like a salad after a couple of days but that aroma dissipates pretty quickly. Finish with a couple cracked open boxes of baking soda placed under the seats.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to do all of them sooner or later. I'll start with the shampooing this weekend though since it's supposed to be rain free and I can leave the top off to dry. I have plenty of charcoal and baking soda from my reef hobby so I'll use that as well. I actually took some cologne that an ex-girlfriend gave me and my wife can't stand and sprayed it all over this past weekend. My wife got suspicious because it also soaked into the clothes I was wearing8-o. I can't smell the cologne today. Just stinky sticks.

Or croutons.

;)No one has asked yet, what are you doing with a 10 year old car?
I love my Jeep! My wife hates it and wants me to get a more "family" like car. She thinks it's unsafe. I tell her that I'm safer in my Jeep than she is in her mini-van. She asked if I thought that because I have a roll bar. I told her, "No. It's because I'm driving it and not you." Maybe if the 4-door Jeep had a hemi option I may be swayed. 6 years with no car payments and no major repairs is hard to give up.
