So it's night time, around 12:45am here so it's pretty damn dark outside. I pull up to the mass-produced pizza place I'd ordered takeout from earlier, it's just your usual unskilled labour franchise pizza place. I get out of my truck and take a drag on my Futura dna / kayfun Lite+ setup and start walking towards the place. I take another short toot on the way and make sure I've exhaled before I reach the door, my ecig tucked away in my back pocket before I enter.

I walk in and say I'm there to pickup my takeout order, pull out my wallet and my debit card so both of my hands are clearly visible in front of my body as I'm standing at the cash register ready to pay. The girl behind the counter gets my order then while standing on the other side of the counter asks me if I was smoking. "I smell smoke" she says. I replied "No I don't smoke". What does she think I'm holding a cigarette between my fat ... cheeks or something? I had both hands on the counter. In my pocket? that'd be kind of painful..

I haven't had any tobacco in a year, May 1 was my 'vapeversary' but immediately I feel self-conscious. "I don't smoke" I said and pull out my ecig and show her, "What's that?" I explain to her in as many words "It's an e-cigarette" and put it back in my back pocket. She goes on again "It smells like smoke" .. "Does it make a flame does it burn?" I reply simply "Nope, doesn't burn anything" and the conversation pretty much stopped there.

But now I'm all worried that my ecig smells like smoke for some odd reason, I know it doesn't. Hell I told my mother about it and showed her and vaped it in front of her and she said it smelled like candy. I use a Crème de Menthe flavour as my all day vape, so yah I guess it would smell kind of like candy.

Firstly, from the point of view of previously being a smoker, w-t-eff is it her business if I smoke or not. Do you damn job and give me my 'effing pizza. am I right?.. Secondly I can only think that she saw me exhaling before I walked inside but it was night time, maybe she did, maybe she didn't. But why the hell would she even question if I was smoking or not.

I left there confused and worried my juice smells, even though I vape at work all the time, secretly in my office, and no one has ever once questioned any smells.

I'm just, I dunno. ......

Edit: And seriously ECF, you're censoring "W T F", my only response to that is those exact same letters again.

The power of suggestion. People see "smoke", they smell smoke.
I always run flavors by my sister first. Knowing what it was my sister has freaked out seeing "smoke" heading towards her before she remembered it wasn't smoke.

Topacka, a suggestion, when something is blocked don't edit to defeat the block. If you're going to edit, edit to remove the blocked word.

I agree it was none of her business and you were still accommodating to answer her questions despite that. She likely saw the clouds from your vapor when you were outside and just ran with it. Some people are just argumentative and disagreeable, regardless of what you tell them.

I would have told her she smells smoke because her brain is on fire from trying to think so hard, which obviously isn't her strong suit. Of course, that would have been AFTER I had my pizza in my hands. I can be mean like that....

I once had a girl scout make obnoxious coughing noises as a i took a puff on my way inside a grocery store. I looked over to see who it was and she was staring smugly at me. This is the conversation

Girl scout "you are killing yourself and other people with your smoke."

Me "this is not smoke. Its vapor. Why don't you do a little reading before you make a smart comment to an adult. Especially one like me who buys your cookies. I was going to buy a few boxes of tagalongs from you. But you lost my business."

Needless to say her den mother was furious and i got a death glare as i walked back out of the store eating a peanut butter cookie i got from inside

Were you wearing a jacket or something Not washed from before quitting? Smell doesn't leave clothing on its own?
Were you hanging with friends that Do smoke?

No need to get paranoid or feel self conscious.

I haven't smoked in over a year, I wasn't wearing a coat just a t-shirt I wear very regularly, I never smoked in my truck, I literally am no where near anyone who smokes anymore. And I work in a scent free, non-smokers only work place. I would find out quickly if anyone thought I smoked..

Is smoking cigarettes totally illegal in Canada? Maybe someone else in the pizza place was the culprit; or, maybe one of the pizza ovens was malfunctioning; or, she was just smelling her upper lip...

I vape creme de menthe too and there's no way in heaven it smells like smoke when vaped. Remember that some people we run into are not playing with a "full set of cards." In her limited mental processes, she may have seen you vaping right before you came into the place and felt it her civic duty to save another smoker from certain damnation.

I would contact the owner of the pizza place and complain about the proselytizing welcome you received in his business and that you don't appreciate it and will take your business elsewhere if it isn't corrected.

I can tell you for a fact that you don't smell like smoke unless you were out partying with smokers or you wore something that hadn't been washed or aired out after you quit cigarettes. I know because people have told me I smell like vanilla or caramel when I meet them for dinner after vaping in my car. That said, it is pretty rude for a stranger to tell you that you smell--unless complimenting you on after shave or perfume!
