My Evod leaked and filled the top of my AUTO eGo battery. I think some got down into the little center hole on the pin. The LED is lighting up but it's not firing. Toast? Any options to save it? Let some rubbing alcohol or vodka drip down thru the center hole? Any advice?..

PS, I tried lifting the post.

I'd be tempted to take a hair dryer to the hole area - not real hot though.

Another real old trick on 901, KR8 autos was to rap it pretty hard on the led - not enough to break it of course. I actually had that work once :) probably some liquid in crucial place and 'dislodged' it to another 'safer' place. And if the led is still working there's hope.

Also, many times it's not the center post on the batt that needs a 'lift' but on the clearo.... Same drill - take a hard toothpick and 'tease' it upward, keeping the same space between the center and outer ring all around the diameter of the center.

You can try just turning it upside down and leaving it alone for a day or two (this is a slow version of Kent's rapping method--much safer, if you have the patience to wait :)). It actually might work. Some people recommend sticking your battery in a container filled with rice (threads down), as rice is hygroscopic. Just don't eat the rice afterwards! :)

I would bypass the alcohol, and use the rice method. It may take 2 or 3 days, but may not work even after that.

Oh, and to avoid future leaks, make sure that the coil assembly is tight--the coil element sometimes gets loose in transport or maybe the manufacturer isn't too careful about tightening it. And don't screw your Evod too tight onto your battery; just enough to make contact.

I've always been highly skeptical of the idea that juice can actually short out an auto battery. In order to short the battery out, juice would have to be highly conducive. If juice was highly conductive then the standard heated coil technology of ecigs wouldn't work, because the juice would be shorting out the coil.

If that theoretical stuff doesn't convince you, then consider this. Take a multimeter and test the resistance/conductivity of juice. I have, it doesn't even register, meaning juice is non-conductive for all intents and purposes that are vaping related.

What juice CAN do is clog up the auto switch rendering an auto battery inoperative. 99% Iso alcohol (common rubbing alcohol available at supermarkets and pharmacies) is also non-conductive. (also personally tested)

Soak the battery in 99% alcohol, this should dislodge and remove any juice inside the battery. Then let it dry for awhile, luckily alcohol evaporates quickly.

If you're desperate and want to take a bit of a risk you can always try 'sucking' some of the juice out of the battery if it hasn't already dried out... For the tiny bit of juice that may have accumulated in the battery it's really not that big a deal -- just be sure to rinse your mouth out afterwards...

Unc., I think you're right. 'short out' wasn't the best description - but interfere with the switch as in my first post is closer. ;- )

thanks everyone. i went against common sense and soaked in alcohol for a few hours. now ill let it dry out over night and take a hairdryer to it tomorrow. lastly, ill pack it in rice for a few days.

Fascinating experiment! What kind of alcohol did you use? Vodka or ISO? My problem with ISO is the toxic stuff that it contains. I have no problem with using ISO to clean the outside of my batteries, the contacts etc., but I use vodka to clean my atties. I don't know what kind of residue ISO leaves after it evaporates, especially inside a battery. Any chemists around? :)

A customer gave me some moonshine. I figured its as close to PGA as I'll get.
