I think I have the worlds largest bird feeder.

Well, not really but my cherries are coming in right now and the birds are trying to do their best to eat them before they finish up in a few days.

I love the songbirds and don't mind because I will never be able to eat all of them. The only ones that tick me off are the crows, you have this beautiful symphany of songs going on and then you hear KAAW KAAAW KAWW. They chase off the song birds, break branches and poop all over. So I go out and pop them with a BB Gun. I doubt it really hurts them but it scares the heck out them and they don't come back for a while.

I have sweet yellow cherries and they are done when they get a blush of pink on them. MMMM cherry cobler anyone?? A quick walk through the woods to an old empty farm gets me all the tart cherries a person can use, they are just a little later. MMMMM Cherry Pie anyone??? Oh and a nice chilled cherry wine isn't the worst thing on a hot day like this either, about three years old is when it hits it's prime. My apple trees are rockin this year as are my grapes, but the pears are not producing much, we had a late frost just when they started to bloom.

Any Cherry recipes or ideas would be greatly appreciated, it looks like a bumber crop this year.

Yeah the crows are going nut on my cherry tree too! they sound insane!

I love waking up to the sound birds or going to sleep when they first come out, and then blam, in come the crows. Oh well they have their place too.

Cute dog by the way. Mine are so ugly I wouldn't call them cute. Or is it that they are so ugly that it makes them kind of cute?

So what do you do with your cherries?

Cherry trees sound wonderful (even if they come with Crows!).

Sadly for me, I'm in Arizona. Won't ever be able to grow cherries. I love spicy food so I'll offer a nice Southwest recipe (when you're tired of cherry pie) that I've been eyeing now that cherries are in season:
Cherry Jalapeno Mexican Pork Recipe - Allrecipes.com

Grab up a Corona (and lime!) to go with it and ¡Buen provecho!

Let me know if you try/like it. It has been in my bookmark from these guys for a while and it just sounds too good!

All I have going this time of year is a lovely Mexican Lime tree (for my Corona beer, Gin & Tonics, Margaritas...) and I cook with them (my Tequila-Lime Shrimp on the grill is easy and killer good!).

Wow looks great. I couldn't get your link to work so I googled it.

The nice thing is I have all the ingredience right now. Nothing too fancy to add, that I would need to get at a specialty store. Or for people like me way out in the boonies to order online.

Ps. Country style spare ribs are just pork butts cut into strips with some of the fat taken off. So they are really cheap to make yourself. Around here you are talking about $1.25 a pound. I bookmarked this and will definately try it. I love spicy food. This really sounds like a winner. Thanks a bunch.

Oooh, I must admit I am a bit envious! I love cherries. And I really love picking fruit right off the vine/tree. You could make a smoothie with them.. though the pitting would make the smoothie process much slower. Put them in a blender with a banana, some vanilla yogurt or cottage cheese, and some ice cubes. Add some wheat germ for fiber if you want. Makes an excellent breakfast.

There are blackberries growing in the yard at my work, and I have been going out there at lunch time and picking a big cupful, taking it home, and blending it up in my smoothie for lunch. I love the picking part just as much as the eating part! I think it brings back good memories of being a kid, outside barefoot picking blackberries and eating them as fast as I could pick!
