I use dip tobacco (Skoal). Are e-cigs going to help me?

Hey I'm a new user and I use dip pretty frequently. I would say, on average, I use about 5 cans per month. I realize that this isn't at the severe level, but I think tobacco is ......ed and I'm ready to stop using it at all. My question is, will my e-cig stop me from buying dip?

I just ordered a Totally Wicked Tornado with [18mg] nicotine concentration tobacco E-juice (the 'high' option). Will this satisfy my cravings for nicotine? I'm not sure how much nicotine Skoal delivers, but I'm also afraid of intensifying my habit due to e-cig use. The main reason I bought the device is because I am self-aware that I truly will regress and buy Skoal. If I have the e-cig I'm hoping it will safely satisfy the urges and allow me to smoke it only on occasions where I crave tobacco.

It's all about the nicotine. For your body, could careless how you get it, it just wants it. Your habit of dip, that's all on you. I state this in almost every post. 15 days to start a habit. Vaping will take care of the nicotine, next time you think about buying a tin, don't, have a Vape. Keep an unopened tin around to relieve the initial stress of swapping habits, really put the appropriate price of your health, money ect.. On opening that final tin, and I hope you will see, it just ain't worth it. Hope this helps.

The body does know the difference. I am really stoked on a new product that will become available soon. I researched this many moons ago and gave up. I am not a chemist so this was way out of my league. However, Aroma e-juice will be marketing a new e-liquid with whole tobacco alkaloids. It is pricey. However, I feel it will give me the kick I need.

I use to dip too, a can a day on top of a pack of cigarettes sometimes. If your gum line looks as low as mine then you will at least get the benefit of not wearing it any lower. Also, no fiberglass in e-liquid!

It's all about the nicotine. ...

I hate to disagree, but it isn't always about the nicotine. Tobacco has more alkaloids than just nicotine, any of which someone could potentially become addicted to.

However, Aroma e-juice will be marketing a new e-liquid with whole tobacco alkaloids.

That's good to know, Sdh. Thanks for the info.

Mr Pickle,

Welcome to ECF!

I don't have any experience with "dip" and have no idea how well vaping is going to work for you as a substitute. Do you know anything about snus? Since you're coming from dip it may be a better alternative for you. There is a lot of info here about Swedish style snus and there are other forums dedicated to it as well. The short of it though is the levels of nitrosamines in snus is a fraction of the levels found in dip.

This is exactly the thread I've been looking for! Let me preface this by saying that I was a heavy smoker for several years before switching to dip. I have tried all kinds of snus but personally found them to be far less than satisfying, something missing with regard to a big pinch of lose tobacco and that huge nicotine hit. That said, I purchased a magma for my wife and have been using it a little to cut down on dipping. So far so good, but a word of caution, if you're like me you will miss the fact that you can leave a dip in for a half hour or better, so buy gum to occupy you between vaping! I am considering purchasing an Inferno or other eGo style e cig for myself now that I am past some of the first week unpleasantries that accompanied my switch to vaping. Good luck, and just think about your teeth and gum line!

I tried quitting smoking with nic gum, but that didn't work at all. I was getting more than enough nic from the gum, heck I would sometimes chew it too fast and want to hurl. But... the longest I ever went on gum was 3 days and every moment of that time I wanted to smoke. Vaping was completely different, I haven't smoked for over a month and nor have I had any massive tobacco cig cravings.

I chewed a long time ago, I quit chewing by taking up smoking. To the original poster I would say to try nic gum first because it has the nic you need and it would feel closer to your current habit than vaping would. If the gum doesn't work then give vaping a try. But of course that is just my speculation, try what you think will work for you best.
