I vape far more than I smoke

In the last 7-8 years, I used to just smoke around 3-4 analogs a day (just 7-8 before that).
I have started vaping for around a month now - only tobacco flavours. If I like the flavour, I end up vaping a lot more than I smoke. Exhausting a full charge of a 1000 mAH egoctwist battery in a day. I wonder if this is counter productive - i.e. I am not getting tar etc, but I am getting a lot more nicotine. Nicotine itself is not a good thing - it's a vasoconstrictor, it raises your blood pressure and your pulse rate. I am on medication for hypertension.

So I am wondering what I do next - shift to a very low nicotine strength liquid - does it still taste as good as the same liquid with higher strength.

Another deterrent is a bad tasting eliquid. I am currently on a Hangsen liquid which I don't like - the vaping has decreased but it's still probably far more than the 3-4 analogs I used to smoke per day.

What are you guys experience after you started vaping - do you vape more than you smoke?

When I stared vaping I also vaped more than I used to smoke and I was smoking a large pack (25) a day. I found I got over the worst of my addiction to cigarettes in a few weeks. I then slowly reduced the nicotine content of my juices over the next 9 months finishing at zero nic about the end of 2012. I have been there since with the exception of September this year when I went back to vaping nic. I've since gone back to no-nic only.

I don't know how much of an influence nicotine is to your blood pressure, specially if you are on hypertension drugs. In my opinion, if I were not having immediate distress from the nic, I would reduce it in steps over 2-3 months. You can always try to go faster and go back to higher nic juice if you need to. People also do well with using higher nic levels in the mornings and then lowering later in the day. Whatever works for you is the right approach for you :thumb:

Having said that, I am not a doctor, this is only my opinion. If you are worried about it do talk it over with your doctor.

The less nic you have in your juice the less throat hit you will experience. This was the hardest thing for me to get used to when I was lowering the nic. Nicotine also has a slightly peppery flavor to it. Now that I'm used to it I find I prefer the clean taste of the flavors I get with no-nic juices.

What nicotine concentration are you using?

If I am home I vape a lot, using 8-12 mg/ml of nicotine (down from 24 when i started). The funny thing is, I can go for long periods without vaping if I'm out or busy doing something that makes vaping inconvenient, without really missing it or having cravings.

I have no idea what amount of nicotine I'm getting. I did a cotinine test for a survey I participated in a while ago. I'll be interested to see how my levels compare to average smoker levels.

I used to smoke 2 packs a day. Now I only smoke a few cigs a day, generally, and vape a lot :) which has improved my health in so many ways:)

Regarding your OP: May I ask you, since you started vaping, is your pulse and blood pressure higher now? Did you have to change your meds? Did you have to start taking meds because you smoked or because you vape now? Sorry I'm so full of questions, but I'm intrigued!

I'm wondering, if you only smoked a few cigarettes a day, what is causing you to vape sooooo much? You state that you like the flavor and so vape a whole lot more but when you don't like the flavor you vape less?

What triggered the smoking? and only a few a day at that? Did you inhale? I'd be curious if you're vaping more because you're wanting or trying to get more nicotine? Are you still smoking cigarettes and vaping? What cigs did you smoke? What mg nicotine are you vaping? What effects did you get from smoking cigs vs the effects that you get now that you are vaping?

It's a scientific fact that nicotine users self-regulate (self-titrate) their nicotine level, which is different for each individual (that's why some smokers go through 3 cigs a day and others go through 3 packs to hit their level). Also, vaping delivers nicotine differently from cigarettes, and the vaping process is different from smoking (vapers tend to take a puff or two, put down ecig, wait a while, repeat, rather than smoking a whole cigarette, puttiing it down, wait longer, repeat). So IMO the "I vape more than I smoked" or vice versa is impossible to quantify or evaluate.

I vape as much as I need to to reach my body's desired nic level, which is, for me, pretty much what it was when I smoked, because I'm not trying to cut back. Am not going to worry about comparing my smoking to my vaping, because my smoking is history...

We get the nicotine from e-cigs differently than we did cigarettes. It's a slower, somewhat less efficient process, and there are things like tobacco alkaloids in the smoke which act as MAO inhibitors that our bodies sometimes miss. Typically, we self regulate the proper nicotine levels unless our body is still searching for that something else. Most of the time, though there have been exceptions, people have found that their blood pressure actually goes down after being off cigarettes for awhile. Mine went down 10 points on both sides, but I was a pack a day+ smoker. If it worries you, buy a blood pressure cuff if you don't already own one and keep a running log for a week to see just how the nicotine is effecting you.

I was just telling a relative the same thing over a Thanksgiving gathering. I'm still on 24mg though. I don't think I need to worry about constricting arteries or capillaries either. I'm a human friggin' furnace. Typically, a single human puts out the heat equivelant of a 100 watt incandescent light bulb. I think I run at at least 150. :)

Around 1ml of 21 mg.

That's really not that much e-liquid, honestly. I'm a very light vaper compared to some, and I normally go through 2-4 ml a day, usually closer to two.

I've seen posts on this forum from people that go through upwards of 10-15 ml per day.

Around 1ml of 21 mg.

That is probably a bit more than what you were getting from cigs or pretty close to the equivalent. Average is 5ml of liquid. 21mg nic is probably too high for you. If you like the flavor, you're probably vaping more FOR the flavor and enjoyment rather than needing the nic.

Lower your nic, you may find the flavor is better too. Nic adds a peppery taste. Depending on what I'm doing during the day I can go through 5-6ml (or more if I'm just sitting around the house) and haven't noticed an increase of liquid use even after dropping my nic content, in stages. I was a pack a day smoker and started out at 24 and 18mg of nic. I'm now down to 9mg. I still vape the same amount of liquid as I did when I first started vaping.

Your addiction habits will probably change a lot during the first year, i know mine did.
At first i tried keeping my puff count under 300 since i had that fancy puff counting battery and i was told that would be the rough equivalent of a pack of cigs a day, i went through 1.5ml of liquid a day. I also kept my ecig out of hands reach so i would have to walk over to it every hour to vape in the same fashion as i smoked.
That go tiresome so after a few weeks i decided to try and do it the way i saw others doing it, just keeping the ecig near u and taking a hit every time i felt like it. That resulted in me vaping almost nonstop for months, my liquid consumption averaged at around 4ml/day at relatively low power.
Then i got myself my first vv mod, tried a bunch of various clearos and finally settled on RBA's. I also started self mixing so in combination with more capable hardware i could finally get that throat hit i craved. I was holding the ecig a lot less since i got more satisfying hits but each hit also consumed more liquid, the overall liquid consumption lowered a little to 3ml/day.
After that i've further tweaked my concoctions, my hardware and i think also gotten over the addiction for other stuff in analogs (look up MAO inhibitors), my consumption has been gradually lowering to a cool 1.5ml/day, back to where i started hehe but a lot more satisfied.

Good luck on your journey!
