I want my taste buds to come back so bad. A full month without any taste.

Like others said, lots of water. And are you cleaning your cartomizers out before filling them? There are some threads around regarding this so read up or check youtube. Oh and give yourself time for the tastebuds to bounce back. Odd though of course that you tasted them initially and now don't...

Good luck!

That's unusual?

Uh oh.

I'm in the same boat. Tasted everything fine when I first started at Christmas, but now I have 7 different flavors sitting in front of me and I can't tell a difference between them. The only taste I do detect is a mild, sickeningly sweet taste from the base (I get the same taste from unflavored pg).

And honestly, drinking more water is out of the question. If I up that anymore I'll have to move my laptop and a TV into the bathroom and just live there.

One thing I have noticed, though, is that on days when I smoke a few analogs, my taste buds bounce back and function normally for that day, pretty fair the next, and then back to not tasting the juice.

Tasting foods doesn't seem to be affected one way or the other since I cut the smoking way down.

Don't get me wrong, I am new to vaping so this might not be at all unusual. I have a medical background which is what makes me think that it seems at odds with what we know, smoking damages the taste sense and quitting will allow it to come back. That's all I meant. Perhaps something else in vaping can affect the tastebuds, I just don't know.

Yeah, I see what you're saying.

Here's the part I find strange... Been using cheap gas-station e-cigs since I started, although refilling them with quality juice. Ordered my KGO kit last week once they were finally back in stock and since it was on the way I didn't want to go buy new cartos for my cheapies, so I just smoked Marlboros as normal for about 3 days over the weekend. Contrary to what one would expect regarding smoking and taste, my taste buds bounced back and started working better.

So maybe there is something in this stuff that dulls the sense of taste. And since most long-timers here report that their taste bounced back, perhaps it's a temporary effect.

But there's two things that stand out to me:

1.) I've never noticed a loss of taste in the past when I quit smoking. Quite the opposite, in fact.

2.) The loss of taste seems to be specific to the e-cig juices. I still can taste food and beverage as normal.

Interesting little phenomenon, anyway....

Is there a physical aspect of vaping that would desensitize taste buds?

Like is it a case that if you place so much direct flavor on to your taste buds they eventually get less productive?

Now why didn't I think of that, yes that absolutely happens. Perhaps that is what is going on, and rotating between very different flavors would help prevent this then.

For instance, salt. If you increase the saltiness of your food gradually, it eventually tastes normal to you and others will say the food is way too salty. Same thing with spicy/hot food like jalapenos, serranos, habaneros, etc. The capsascin receptors which detect the spiciness of the oils in these foods trigger a cellular signaling cascade which over time leads to down regulation, or decreased expression of the receptor. Hence the ability to habituate, and the ability to tolerate hotter and hotter foods by exposure.

Great thought, and I bet this is what, in part at least, could be happening!

Your tongue can taste only four things: sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. The rest of the experience is in your sinuses. Smell is everything when vaping. You might want to ask your doctor to prescribe Flonase spray or something that opens up the olfactory buds in your nose. You'll be able to smell grass, trees, flowers, and all those things you haven't smelled since you started smoking.

Your olfactory organ is at the top of your sinuses behind the top of your nose, right between the eyes. If the vapor can't reach that point, you won't taste much. You can try inhaling the vapor and slowly exhaling through your nose and see if that helps a little.

I did something weird, but at least I was able to taste something. I just mixed up 2 ml of each Pink Spot Menthol, Mad Vapes Minthol and Copper Creek House Blend. Beautiful vape! All the mint/menthol kept me refreshed and I was able to feel some of the complex sweet-ish House Blend underneath. Much better than menthol alone which is kinda to harsh for me. Whatever...

Maybe it's just some e-juices too. I've got a couple and two that I just received that were really good, and stayed really good. My taste buds can't be TOO bad either because one of the juices I got was a real "stinker" (at least to me, my son seems to like it okay), but it just about killed me, and I had to keep sucking on it to get it as much out of my atomizer as possible (note to self, do not TEST new flavors with three drops on the automizer in case you hate it).

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

elfstone above may be onto something. I got a delivery of e-juice today and among the flavours was one called "Cough Drop" by Tasty Vapes and I'll tell you, it blasted something loose and ever since I have -- albeit only briefly, but increasingly longer each time -- been able to taste even some of the more subtle flavours I have. I guess the menthol/eucalyptus in the cough drop stimulates the nerves into firing again. Wears off after a while but hey... It worked.
