The only downside to those silo's are the price (currently in the millions) and the fact that all of them haven't been fully cleaned of the toxic rocket fuel that was stored there... Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that after some research it seems that a lot of them were left with the silo doors open and have been filling up with water for the last... 40 years or so! It also looks like most of the suspension springs for the shockwave protection are failing and the doors are starting to buckle from their own weight. I personally had high hopes for a missile silo fortress but the more I look into it, the more it looks like I'd have to be a millionaire before the outbreak and have one rebuilt before hand to make it a viable option.

these were brought up on the zombie plan of the week thread (post #15)... They are still in the suggestion box and will make it as the ZPOTW one of these weeks.
I'm leaning more towards these now:
D & K Tanks, We are a supplier of quality Culverts, Pipe, Pressure Vessels, Carbon Steel Storage Tanks, Silos, Stainless Steel Tanks, Blowers, Air Locks, High Pressure Pumps both new and used and much more.
Steel tanks with almost 2" thick walls. Most are for chemical or pressurized gasses and getting a 10-14' diameter one is still in the 4 digit price range with a couple of the largest ones running 10 grand. They won't have the structural weakness that the ISO shipping containers have and could be buried underground. Another 'habitrail' network of 10' drainage pipes could be used as well if you reinforce it with concrete for longevity. OR, you could just use small sections as hidey-holes with no long term amenities, but an adequate short term safe house/base for long range scouting/looting.
Yeah, I do a lot of research and keep changing or improving my 'ultimate' zombie plan. That's the major reason I haven't submitted an official ZPoTW.

Too be honest ALL plans will have flaws. The honest to goodness best plan out there?
The answer: you, and you alone. Thats the only thing you can really count on. Look around, read all you can, get weapons and know how to use them (dont just collect them, use them) take a weekend and go camping, survival style. Take the minimum with you, and go for the entire weekend. Thats a good way to find exactly what you want in your b.o.b. as well. Take a small pad, a pencil and take notes. If you think of something you need, write it down. There is no perfect zombie plan just like there is no perfect 3 day pack. The plan and the pack should reflect what you want/need.

Who cares about a little left over rocket fuel smell... This place is sweet. That's some pretty good architecture for a missile silo. Now, I know where my tax dollars have been going... they're paying Frank Gehry to design spiral staircases in missile silos!
Plus, I have my private and multi-engine pilot's licenses. So, this place would be great spot for a quick getaway or meeting spot to unite the divided factions of zombie killers. A zombie killing conference?
do we have to kill the zombies at this pont that we all get to thare and have a conference cant we do some testing in this plase and see if we can tran the zombies to do things and if we cant thin go and start killing agen yea at the begen we will have to kill to live
