Is there a tutorial thread somewhere on the forum to give me a start with dripping? I have been using an rta for about two years because I spend a lot of time during the work week in my car going from one customer to another. There are times however that I can spend hours on the phone in my home office. It is during those times that I think a dripper would make sense.

I know nothing about dripping. How much do I drip before I fire it up? How often do I re-drip? Why do drippers generally give a more flavorful vape? I got a million questions, well maybe 3 or 4.

There are a lot of dripper designs for a lot of different reasons. You don't say what kind of vaping you do so it's hard to suggest rda's that might be good. Fasttech sells many styles for under $10. May be you'll have to try a few. If you are used to rebuilding there's not much more to talk about. You'll figure out the rest pretty fast. BTW I use an rda exclusively. It doesn't leak in my pocket because the air supply is on the side of the barrel and I can cover that with a tall silicone slip ring.

I vape for the pure enjoyment of it. I DL vape and I go for flavor, not clouds.

There are 100`s of RDA`s on the market right now. Fortunately most sold as clones go for right around 10-15 bucks each, so you can buy a lot of them before you find where you are headed with your vape. I started out with smaller RDA`s like Hobos, Veritas and Derringers only to find out what I really prefer are 24mm RDA`s with fairly large coils.

What kind of RTA is it? You could start out with one that`s closest to what you are using for now.

Stillare`s, Tugboats, Mutation X`s and TOBH ATTY`s all offer great vapes and are simple enough to get started on while you feel your way around the RDA world. There`s really a lot going on in a RDA. Top flow, side flow, bottom flow, chamber size and profile, coil size both wraps and diameter and gauge, cool, warm, HOT? Lots of things to consider and everyone is different.

I have been using an RTA for about two years because I spend a lot of time during the work week in my car going from one customer to another. There are times however....that I think a dripper would make sense.

Which RTA(s) are you currently using, and what do you like and don't like about each? Are you a MTL or direct lung vaper? What kind of builds do you plan on using on your RDA? What type of build deck do you want? Are you looking for excellent flavor while giving up some vapor production, excellent vapor production while giving up some flavor, or a more "balanced" RDA which will give both very good flavor and very good vapor production?

How much do I drip before I fire it up?

Enough to saturate the entire wick and to fill the juice well about 3/4 full. You can of course fill up the juice well more, even right up to the top, but you'll need to be extra careful not to tilt the RDA at all.

How often do I re-drip?

It totally depends on the builds you use, the wattage you vape at, your wicking technique, and the size of the drip well on your RDA. If I mount a simple 30 gauge dual coil on my 24 mm Goon RDA, wick it with Japanese cotton using the "Scottish roll" wicking technique, and vape it at 20 watts, I'll get several dozen hits before I need to re-drip. If I mount a dual Clapton coil on my CLT V3 Mini, wick it with Japanese cotton the "normal" way, and vape it at 100+ watts, I'll need to re-drip after every two or three hits.

Why do drippers generally give a more flavorful vape?
RDA's are usually more flexible with coil placement and wicking technique, and typically have a more direct airflow, compared to most RTA's. They also are usually capable of supporting larger and more exotic coils. I can fit a 3.75 mm dual fused Clapton coil with 10 wraps on my 24 mm Goon. That build would not even come close to being able to fit in any RTA that I'm aware of. But even with simple builds, I can position the coils a fraction of a millimeter from the air holes, which is something that you cannot do on most RTA's.

Sure you can... it's just a comparatively utter PITA to do it with an RTA.

Flip the tank, drain the deck, remove the base, shift the coil(s), reassemble... test. Repeat

You can make the adjustment on an RDA in the time I took to type that sentence.
Or that one. :p

That said... I have a dozen or so RDAs and haven't touched one in months.
They're great... if you enjoy "fiddly". I don't.
(not to say an RTA can't be fiddly as well)

I started on a dripper from avid vapor, i just wanted something to taste juices with and i loved it. It was a bridgless atomizer 7 bucks and eventually you throw it out. Next i got a derringer clone. I found it easy to wick and i love the taste. I tried a stumpy bit don't like the vape. It was simple to build on though. I also tried the steam crave Aeromaizer and that is easy to build on and great taste but its dual coil. Next i tried a kayfun v5 which i love. It's easy to build on, wick and flavor is great. So it depends on what kind of vaper you are. I love easy with good flavor and restricted air.
