Hi!
I am very excited and had nobody else to tell...
I bought a Smoktech Caterpillar dripper on eBay, £8 and free postage, so I thought it'd be perfect to get into dripping on. It came on Saturday. I bought this just to rebuild, flavour and vapour on my Subtank is great for me, and the RTA sure is also fun, but I knew it could be much much better- I vape exclusively the OCC coils now and felt I was missing out on rebuilding.
So the day I got the Smoktech I started fiddling around with the premade coils, I successfully built a 0.7-8 or so deck with them (ohm reading is not so accurate on my Cloupor mini), and shoved some wick in it and had a quick vape. How disappointing! I could only get one puff with full flavour (and I mean FULL flavour!), then the next couple puffs died down and were burnt hits by the 4th at most... Ew! Although I knew the fault lied with me, so I had a fiddle, and broke a stock coil in the process, which was of course now far too small to use. Doh! As the 28g Kanthal I had ordered had not arrived the same day as the RDA, I proceeded with the one coil I had left. I eventually built a better wick, I could get a few more puffs out of it before it tasted gross, but I was still highly disappointed. Far less vapour production than it should have been, and taste was dull. I put the thing down and picked the Subtank back up, not feeling too hopeful about dripping. Yet of course it was picked up again today when the wire arrived. I built two coils straight away making 0.5 ohms together, 1 ohm each of course, and wicked it. Took a few toots and sure enough, a burnt hit... Aah! I still proceeded to make another new wick, I don't give up that easy (except smoking!) a little bit less cotton this time, I squeezed the coil together with tweezers and moved it about a bit to wick better, and my... What a difference! I get around 10 tokes before I drip again, wouldn't be surprised if I could get more but I don't want to risk it! I can even jam it right up to 30w, flavour is unbelievable all the way, and vapour production too, leaves the Subtank in the dust! NOW I can see why people drip! I never knew I would be this impressed! I want to chain vape so bad, but I ran out of low nic juice!
My two pence is, if you are thinking about dripping, or if you just like getting handy, or if you like spending stuff, take the plunge! The smok Caterpillar is mad cheap, and as far as I can tell (it's my only dripper) mad decent quality, the middle post is rotated a little off but it doesn't notice and doesn't affect the builds. flavour is fully maxed out and vapour is great, but I assume that depends more on the build than the actual RDA, air flow is a bit less than the Subtank but still more than enough. It looks beautiful too! Perfect starter dripper or take-anywhere dripper!
Keep vaping guys, thanks for reading my blog style thread/essay!
