I was told to get a halo triton as my first upgrade from ecigs. Are there better / more highly recommended brands?

Sweet! I think I'm going to grab that kit. Any recco on the setup for it? There seem to be a TON of options.

Which kit are you referring, too? If it's the one at MyFreedomSmokes, you'll want to get a wall charger. I suggest you get one with some balls. This one at Amazon is over 2 amps:

Amazon.com: RAVPower® Dual USB Travel Charger / Wall Charger 5V/2.1A for Iphone,Iphone 5,Iphone 4/4S,Ipod Touch,Kindle Fire,iPad Mini, The New iPad, iPad 2; Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Note 2, Note n7000;Kindle Touch and other Mobile devices - White: Kind

The one Halo provides is only .5 amps. Most AC Adapters provided in kits aren't very powerful. I bought the $9.99 charger from Amazon and noticed an immediate improvement in charging time. Added bonus, it has two USB ports.

By the way, computer USB ports rarely exceed .5 amps. Computer techies don't recommend using the PC to charge stuff.

I bought the Triton tank Starter Kit and love it. Did alot of research and decided to go with that setup. Has some great colors, and built really well. tanks are easy to clean, and no gurgling when you fill itvwith liquid. Batteries charge super fast, and last all day. Also they give you the option of getting 400mah or 650mah batteries, and you can mix and match. Just a great vape out of the Triton, and really reliable. I would recommend the Triton to anyone starting out just because of its simplicity. I know eventually I will buy something else, but for now I can't stop vaping with my Triton.

Halo does an excellent job of presentation. I own the G6 kit. The box looks classy and they let you pick colors. But, Halo is using the same Chinese producers everyone else is using. You're paying a premium for the presentation and the name. Nothing is wrong with that. If you have $65 to spend, go for it.

This $31 kit has a 1300 mAh battery:

And it has cool colors.

1. I have a Triton kit, and a Triton VV. It certainly does the trick.

2. I get leaky tanks from time to time and have to fiddle with them, whether it be retightening the coil, or removing one of the wicks... but really, its not super terrible.

3. 808 threads will stop you from playing with all the other stuff that is available to the 510 crowd. I am heading in the direction of the 510 stuff now after owning them for about 3 months, but I assume I will still use this gear as well, cause it does to the trick quite nicely.

4. Halo seems like a pretty solid kit. I've dropped my batts with tanks attached many times, and all are still working like champs.

So yea, the Halo kit is solid, and I don't regret my purchase. I started using 808 threaded cigalikes from V2 though, so I wanted to stay with an 808 thread when I upgraded. I tend to tinker with my stuff though, and the set up (without using adapters) makes it tough to sample the other gear available. Not having used any of the 510 or ego stuff yet, I can't really comment on it. But I can say that there are "orders" of magnitude more gear available for the other thread patterns vs the 808 / VGO.

edit - additional comment.

It was a hugely enjoyable difference moving from an ecig to the Triton kit. If you wind up going that route, I would be very surprised if you were disappointed. Good luck!

I like the idea of backups when I upgrade (I'm super forgetful so I'll likely keep one everywhere)
The iTaste 134 looks awesome, but I think I'll wait until I learn more.

P.s. I'm guessing I need to buy a sampler pack of juice somewhere?
I like an almost FLAVORLESS vape.
Maybe a tinge of menthol.
Not a fan of the scratchy throat hit.
And I love lots of vapor. (for no reason that it's visually satisfying)

I'm sorry I missed the first question
Yes evods would be a good place to start
they taste great
bottom coil so not a lot of fiddling
easy to refill
heads easily replicable
dependable so you will always have something when you try new things

From here: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

Important Note:
This Clearomizer is designed to fasten onto the outer cone threads of an Ego battery. It is NOT 510 threaded.

This Clearomizer is compatible with Ego series batteries such as the Joye Ego-Tank, Joye Ego-C, Joye Ego-C Twist and Vision Spinner battery.

To use with a 510 threaded MOD like the Zmax (seen in image below), iTaste SVD, Smoktech SID, Joye eVic etc... you will need a 510 to Ego Adapter. Even if your MOD has Ego threads, they may or may not be deep enough to make contact. We strongly suggest purchasing the adapter if you intend to use this Clearomizer with a MOD.

I thought the whole point was to get 510's?

I think it's ideal to get one that has 510/eGo threading. Meaning there are two sets of threads. The battery accepts clearomizers with eGo threading and cartomizers with 510 threading.

The KR808D-1 threading limits you a bit.

I see. So basically, since all the clearomizers AND cartomizers in that deal I posted from myvapestore are ego fitting, they can't be used later with another mod, but the batteries can?

I ended up with one of each battery, and for the tips I got an mt3 and an evod

I could not agree more. I never recommend 808 thread products. Been there, got the T-shirt.

ergo, I would not have anything to do with Halo, even if they could be purchased in the UK. It also annoys me that NONE of these companies take the time to point out to their potential customers that by buying their products you can waive goodbye to extending your collection into the interesting areas of the e-cig world.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I keep seeing the "may as well go to 510" thing because there are more 510 devices than 808 devices. I started with 808 and still use 808 cig-a-likes every day. I also have several VV and VV/VW "mods" that are 510. I use everything that fits on my 808 systems on my 510 systems and vice versa. The thread difference is no limitation, just use the appropriate adapter. I use 808 autos and can use my Protanks, T3s, Raven and CE3s effectively an them. I fail to see the "disadvantage" of 808. In fact, there is an advantage! When you fill an 808 device you can stand it neatly on any flat surface. 510 stuff just falls over, LOL.

Well. There you have it. I am clearly wrong.

I have an adapter that allows me to use 808 cartos and clearos on 510 batteries, but in 14 months of searching and asking many vapers, I never found one that worked in reverse.

I guess I need to move over the Atlantic.

Apologies for misleading.

I started with the Halo Triton starter kit, and haven't once regretted it. It's super simple, and the tanks/batteries are a match made in heaven. As others have mentioned, the threading can be a hurdle if you want to use different tanks. But it's a very low hurdle with the price and availability of adapters.

I now have an eVic that I will use with bigger tanks like the Protank 2 and Vivi Nova, but I keep my Tritons close and take one with me if I have to leave the house. The different threading hasn't bothered me because from an aesthetic standpoint I wouldn't want the big tanks on my smaller batteries or visa verse.

All that being said, there are so many options that it really is a matter of taste. I really don't think you could go wrong with an eGo kit or a Triton kit. Both are really popular for good reasons.

You mean like this one? 808 to 510 adapter [gotvapes-808to510-adapter] - $3.99 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

It's for putting 510 devices on 808 threaded batteries. Sorry if I got it backwards, I don't read very well.

I started vaping with an 808 threaded eGo style kit and wasn't too crazy about the massive cartomizers (4.5ml) that came with the kit. I bought an adapter in order to use 510/eGo threaded clearos. After a few weeks, the batteries just wouldn't cooperate with the adapter anymore; the fire button would repeatedly flash and the batteries wouldn't fire. Go with a 510 threaded kit.
