I wretch and gag with ecigs? Why? I want to love them but my body seems to reject them

This happened years before when I tried switching over. I cough and gag worse than I ever did with cigaettes. I love everything about vaping, it's just that until I get my lungs used to it each day I'm a gagging fool. Am I the only one? I've invested hundreds of dollors in vaping and found a combination that works best. Still I gag and wretch each morning trying to get my first fix.

Please help.

Hello and welcome
good suggestions so far. No need to even inhale to get the nic into your system. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids also as vaping will dry you out.
What type of ejuice are you using? And what ratio of pg/vg? Pg can be harsh on some peoples throats.

Let us know a little bit more so we can further help you. Also, let us know how long you smoked and how much.

:)

I haven't even been drawing the vapor into my lungs much. I read that all of the nicotine is absorbed in your mouth or nasal passages. Do a search here and you will learn too. I can take about 8 vapes just into my mouth, sometimes exhaling thru my nose and I get a nic hit. I do hold it there sometimes to get a good nic hit, but I have no plans on inhaling the hit into my lungs. Smoke it like a cigar and see how it is working for you(holding in mouth and exhaling slowly, thru your nose if you can). Inhaling PG/VG+nic+flavoring IS better than a commercially available cigarette, but as once told to me... "you have coated your lungs with tar and who knows what else, the last thing your lungs need is a fresh coat of something not meant for inhalation, let your lungs breath and get your nicotine some other way."

Hey Old School,
ArchDame has a good post,
avoid the direct lung inhalation to satrt with.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

Welcome back, hang in there, and take it at your own pace......:)

This. I started off doing a mouth inhale but now that I'm used to it I mostly do a lung inhale. You will hear many times in this forum that whatever works for you is the best way…and thats the truth. Try different methods, try not to get frustrated, and have fun!!

Another vote for the proper inhale. I sounded like a dying seal the first time I tried ecigs because I was pulling it straight in.

I still have just a bit of an issue first thing in the morning. My normal vape is just a bit too harsh (too much TH or something), so I've switched to a milder juice for the morning. It seems that there is very little TH to this stuff later in the day, and I was almost considering abandoning it, but it works well for those first few puffs. By the time I have my first cup of coffee in hand, I'm generally ready to switch to my normal stuff.

I cough on the first several puffs of the day and I don't even inhale - I use the "pipe" method, I guess....? Anyway, it just seems that I need an hour or more to "get going," so while I'm drinking my coffee I either don't vape, or vape juices that seem to be milder/cleaner/cooler, i.e. peach, plum, citrus splash. Helps me, don't know if it will help you.

Like others have said, you don't have to lung inhale to get the nicotine if you don't want/can't. In fact, I don't really lung inhale much, if at all; just enough to blow it out my nose (nasal membranes absorb nic very well). Makes me look like some dragon lady, but I get my nic fix, and my lungs are happy. Do what works for you. Lung or mouth inhale--whatever your body likes best. Cheers!

My last post somehow dissapeared. I never enhale into my lungs. I go into my mouth and throat then slowly exhale, I hope you know what I mean. Always exhaling through my nose. I'm taking all your advice into consideration. I appriciate your concern. I'll let you know how things go.

It does take a bit of practice.

Make sure to drink a lot of water and even get some throat lozenges. Vaping is very dehydrating.

When I first started vaping, just a small hit would send me off on a coughing jag. I went with a pure VG juice and that made it possible to inhale. After a couple of weeks, I could inhale the vapor quite easily. Then I went back to a more traditional vg/pg mix. It's still abit harsh for the first few hits in the morning but then it settles down. It's getting better daily.
