I personally think they are very good chargers. The only problem I have had is that they hold the battery very tight. Some of my batteries are getting an indention in the bottom. But other than that. . . I like mine. In fact, I just ordered another one to have as a backup. Gotta have backups for everything.

I have a Nitecore i2 that's been in use for over a year. It works better than I expected. I think they're great chargers, pretty much plug and play. The three LED's show charge status, and the charge termination on them is excellent. My fiancé and mine both terminate at 4.16 - 4.18 depending on the age of the cell, which is perfect in my opinion. I'd buy another without hesitation.

I've been using mine for over a year, works great. One of the bays, the spacer is a little harder to move than the other, but not hard to place a cell in.

ETA: Mine consistently charges my vtc4 cells to 4.23v and my purple efests to 4.24, which is a little higher than it should be, but like I said, that's been consistent the whole time.

Buy the charger with the digital display, I bought the D2 for $19 at a local B&M. It's nice being able to see the exact voltage your battery is at when you plug it into the charger and what its at when you take it off the charger. It is few dollars more then the i2 charger but its worth it
I second that.
A D2 or D4 great little chargers for just a few dollars more.
I've had my D4 for a while now and it has been great, be warned though, the LCD display is quite brite.

Put a drop of fishing reel oil on the little metal slide visible behind the slider. I didn't like the draggy feeling in mine when I got it so 8 drops of reel oil and they have been smooth as silk for over a year. Be forewarned, the reduction in friction adds to the launch distance when removing a cell if you don't have a good grip on it.

As to the OP's question, have had the i4 for almost 18 months, have never checked the cutoff but I still have my first two batteries I bought the same day as the charger and they have been cycled a few hundred times through it and work fine.

And whats the fastest charger out there, especially for 18650s?

You don't want the fastest charger if you want your batteries to last the 300 - 400 charges they can do. I don't charge my 18650s at over 1 amp and that's only if I'm in a hurry. Otherwise they charge at 0.5A. I don't empty them all the way, that also shortens their life, so they rarely take longer than three hours to charge.

You don't see a litany of issues like that with Xtar.

I've got three Nitecore chargers, two D2's and a i2. The D2's are really nice, easily one of my favorite charger's. If you're willing to spend a little more, you can charge at 300mA and 500mA simultaneously in each bay. It's nice being able to charge smaller cells at 300mA, while charging larger cells at 500mA in the next bay. The display is nice with info for both bays. If you don't want the display on, the press of a button turns it off. Either way, they are both good charger's, good luck!

I just got my first mech mod, and got a Nitecore I2 (2014 version) plus HE4 batteries to go along with it.

When I first plugged the charger into a cheap extension cord and put my batteries in it, it seemed to be running a little warm and I smelled a bit of a burning plastic smell coming out of it. I unplugged it, took the batteries out, then plugged it into a surge protector. Gave it a second and put my batteries back into it... Then everything was fine and my batteries charged as expected. I don't know if the surge protector made a difference or if maybe I put the batteries in too quickly the first time, or what.

Question:

I saw in a review somewhere that these charges continue the trickle charge AFTER the lights indicate that the battery is full. The review said that you should leave them in for up to an hour after it says they are done. Can anyone confirm or deny this, or was this something that applied to version 1 and not the updated version? I don't know how much heat trickle charging produces but on my first charge I left them in about 20 minutes after and both the charger and the batteries seemed completely cool to touch.

Just follow the instructions in the manual.
