Hopefully that title didn't get your blood boiling. I know people get really heated about the whole healthier/not healthier debate. But for the record this post is NOT about weather e-cigs are honestly healthy. What this post is about is the changes I have noticed with quitting cigarettes and starting vaping. It really made me curious once I started noticing things and so I started researching. So I will explain what I have found and propose some ideas and you guys can correct me and tell me your opinion on the matter.

So I got my first bout of vapers tounge. I became very curious about what made my mouth so dry and why the taste of the vape on my tounge disapeared. Everything I read said it was a mystery. Some say it happens strictly because you "stop smoking" and others say it happens because you "start vaping". Everyones answer to it is simply drink lots of water. But that wasn't good enough for me!!! :D So further down the rabbit hole I went. Searching for answers that were nowhere to be found :'( Long story short, I ended up reading articles about Vegetable Glycerin and how it breaks down in the body. Now VG is said to have a very low toxicity rate, but we all know that people can be mildly alergic to it. As far as I understand most e-juices has VG in them even if VG isn't the base. So we have to assume that almost all of us are vaping at least a small amount of VG. So here is where things started to click. Glycerin is also known as Glycerol. A little googling explained that Glycerol is a sweet liquid that acts like a sponge in your body. When consumed with water or a sports drink, glycerol causes greater fluid retention than drinking water alone. Also, Glycerol is broken down into a type of Glucose (sugar) in the body. PG is a little more complex but the majority of it breaks down into Pyruvic Acid which is a normal part of the glucose-metabolism process.

Now this lead me to read some articles about smoking and what smoking does in the human body. Did you know that one of the natural reactions to nicotine is a relatively large release of glucose into the body? I found this very interesting. You know the feeling you get when you crave? That is one of the ways your body asks for glucose. You feel sluggish and your brain is slow. You need a good hit of nicotine because it will instantly release glucose into your system. It's way faster then eating which can take 15-20 minutes to release glucose into your system. This is why cigarettes are an appetite supressant and why when people quit cold turkey, they crave candy! Is it all starting to make sense? :)

Research also shows that nicotine suppresses the absorption of caffeine in the human body. So for an example, last night I got a TON of energy from the 1 cup of coffee I had at 9 o'clock. I was up way too late haha. Normally that wouldn't effect me. Also, this morning when I had a coffee I felt wired! So I started to see a pattern. I am obviously not getting the same amount of nicotine that I got from smoking analogs. Even with 24 mg/ml e-juice! I have heard talk of the possible that the amount of nicotine we are absorbing from vape is very small. Combined with everything I just said it actually makes sense. I am not certain that VG or PG is breaking down the way I think it is. I personally am not a doctor or a chemist so I have no idea besides what the internet tells me. I try to stay on sites I can trust so I believe my facts are solid but I could be mistaken. But, what I am proposing is, that the majority of the "quitting power" that e-cigs give people is due to the glucose we pull from the e-juice. The small amount of nicotine we absorb probably helps as well.

So maybe it's a weak debate but I personally think its important to know how our bodies are actually responding to e-juice. If someone could correct me on all of this I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have something to back me up that would be great as well. All this aside I think the important part is that we stay analog free!!! It's tough sometimes but vaping is the way to go. The comunity here has been great to me and definitely helped every step of the way. So thanks guys! :D
