that way from the time it's organized till about a week or so b4 x-mas (to give presents time to get there in time) to plan things out, find out who u'd b SS to and then do what u could to shop for them - even if planning took ages u'd still have at least a whole month i'd imagine.

And Mailing the gift via USPS around December 1st, virtually guarantees it's arrival in February....

ROFL Captain Obvious...think I will steal that idea and use it as my Halloween Costume. I've always wanted to wear a cape...

Captain Obvious...Able to tear cardboard with his bare hands! <--(my new slogan.)

If you all need someone to organize it, I can do it. I'd like a cap on the number of participants though, just for sake of sanity. I'm thinking somewhere around 40 or so, but if people have problem with that I'm fine with it.

Just a thought, perhaps there could be two SS's going with different organizers if there were more participants interested than the cap, and that way the organizers could participate in the one they're not running if they wanted to. ie Joe Smith runs SS1 and Jane Doe runs SS2. No repeats in participants, so if you're in 1 you're not in 2. But Joe Smith could be in SS2 and Jane Doe could be in SS1.

I appreciate the offer of help and will definitely talk to you about it more as we progress with this. We are already talking about having different groups for it. I honestly think it would end up being way too much for one person.

Good to hear Jules. :)

I do have one other question, what about people who are sharing an id? We have at least one couple sharing a user id on here. Makes for an interesting situation for stuff like this. ;)

In that case I think they would get two chances. I did it that way when I did my last contest.

Also, I like the idea of a price range and I do think a min is necessary. Minimum amount of time in the group might be worth considering as well. Also, I would like to see mandatory trackable shipping-weeds out any possibility of accusations of not shipping. Just my 2 cents. :)
Great idea on the tracking number.

Sending tracking numbers kind of ruins the "Secret" aspect of a secret Santa doesn't it? (unless you mean to send the numbers to the organizer)

The PIF community seems to be an honest, close knit bunch. I doubt we would have any issues with people just not shipping things out.

I also still do not like the idea of a minimum amount spent, it's exclusive! We have some crafty members who can make, thoughtful, handmade gifts that might not cost much material wise, but are still very nice :D Value can't always be accurately measured in dollars. Plus, christmas is about GIVING not receiving :2c: I would still definitely love to participate either way, whatever the rules are. Ive got a list in my head already of people id love to buy for :p

P.S.
I think we would have to be assigned well before the 15th to get things shipped to us, repackaged and shipped back out in time(due to holiday shipping delays) unless we decided to do the whole event some other time of the year :D

If a go I think everyone should be assigned or chosen a month in advance that way everyone has time to do whatever and I dont agree with a minimum but maybe having a max amount not to go over because lets face it not everyone has the same amount of money to spend. whomever wanted to join could post and the person leading should assign everyone a number that way no one will know who they are getting untill after the numbers have been chosen

If we do this:

There will no minimum limit.

Delivery confirmation will be kept by the person that sent the package and only used in the case of someone saying they didn't get their gift. They could possibly be sent to the leader of each group.

We will have different groups. There is no way that one person, no matter how organized, should be handed this kind of project.

There will be a maximum.

Someone, other than me, will be the one to organize it. I will do nothing but mess it up!

All names and groups will be formed and chosen in November. There will be a cut off date. We don't want things stuck in the postal system during Christmas rush. If we do start organizing the first of November, we should have everything ready to go the first of December.

Work in progress. Keep the ideas coming.

I do think we might need to work on something for new members that may join after our cut off date so they don't feel left out and feel like this is some sort of a clique that you have to be in.

As long as it's decent vapable liquids and not DIYs that just didn't pan out, I see no problem with it. I don't think anyone here would send something nasty to anyone. We have a great bunch and I honestly think people would enjoy sharing what has been made by others. Those gifts always seem to be worth more, know what I mean?

I think a secret santa is a great idea. The cut off date for signing up should be well ahead of the send off date so that if people have something they want to specifically get/make for someone they have plenty of time. Maby the sign up date being the 1st or 15th of Nov and the mailing date to be a range of maby the 5-10 or 15th of Dec. The Post office has a date usually mid Dec where they say it will get there by the 25Th.
