I would start by calling the 3 credit bureaus and telling them to place a fraud alert on your credit. What this does is makes the bureaus call you to confirm any new credit lines. (Equifax, Experion, and Transunion)

Great advise here. While your financial exposure is limited the time involved to clear up the mess is considerable if they do infact start using your identity. Jump on this NOW.

I plan on it....thankfully enough they are in jail currently. Too bad my neighbor watched the one go into my house and didn't call the cops while I was at work.

I would also call the Social security office and DL bureau. They maybe able to put a watch on things and if not maybe able to tell you what all you can do.
Definitely call the credit bureau's and put a freeze on for Identy theft.
Also make sure the police report includes this as well so if something comes up it is well documented your info was stolen.

Don't you love the neighbors? My neighbors would let my house burn down! LOL Sorry about your loss. You may want to contact a lawyer for some legal advice. I had this happen to me when I was in my early twenties. For me they just used my SSN for applying for jobs and such. It can become complicated.

Also once yearly from now and forever you may obtain a free copy of your credit reports (really free, from the government, not gimmic commercials with hidden fees)

from Annualcreditreport.com AnnualCreditReport.com

Do you have children? When you are talking to the credit reporting agencies, you should certainly inquire if there has been any activity in their name or social security number.
