You folks are a terrible influence. For almost a year I've been away. I thought I was quite happy with my setup
I've been using SnG vapor hybrid ceramic/stainless heads in a Vivi Nova at 10 watt. Decent flavor, decent vapor, quite good so I thought.

I come on looking for a new APV and see these RBA are the hot thing. And then I watch videos of the immense clouds people are blowing with them. Not a good idea. 'Cause now I "need" one.

Now in the past I've experimented with RDA and cotton, and while I got good results, I was never quite happy. I got hot legs, burning cotton, intermittent shorts etc. Looking around it seems I was probably wrapping my coils too tight.

So I want to try again, with a tank RDA this time. What I need is something that is pretty easy to setup. I probably won't use stainless just because I already have all the goods for cotton. I need something I can build that's fairly painless. Something pretty cheap in case I just can't get it. and something that can preferably take dual coils eventually (not a necessity, if I get that good I'll probably have a couple more)

What's good for noobs? I was looking at the smok RSST and the AGA-T2. Also, the Steam turbine clones look interesting, as do the Kraken clones? And what are these Kayfun atomizers about?

AGA-TD.
Very high quality materials, construction and finish.
Works out of the box (no tinkering mods needed).
Pre-drilled for single and dual coil; unlike 1st release.
Glass tank.
Fairly large smooth bore wick holes.
About $20 w/ 3 day shipping.

I prefer dual cotton wicks, single coil, 3/32" ID twisted 30GA kanthal. 1 ohm if you mod can safely handle 4 amps. Easily wicks thick VG juices. Doesn't leak a drop if stored upright. Peter K build coil around 3/32" drill bit on the bench. Skinny wick through deck and fatter wick sits atop deck.

is the plastic tank in the rsst prone to being attacked by fruit, menthol, and cinnamon juices?

There's a pyrex RSST "coming soon". Think it's for pre-order in some shops, so probably not that far away.

OK I am looking at three HCigar clones
The Steam Turbine
The Steamboy
The Kraken

it doesn't have to be one of these three, but since I'm looking at $10 off each one, I'm leaning towards them. Anyone have any experience with these? Do any of them do cotton well?

Kraken! Kraken! That being said. If your preference is for cotton (booo!), there are better systems for such profanities. Like the Kayfuns or the Russians. Or the Taifun GT, some say.

If your preference is for mesh wicks (yey!), you can't go wrong with the Kraken.

I hate to admit that some people do think cotton is better than mesh. Even tho mesh is clearly superior. OK OK... very much a personal preference. Just keep in mind that the 3 you listed are "intended" to be used with mesh, while the Kayfun, etc, are "intended" to be used with silica/cotton, etc. You can of course use cotton in the 3 gennies... but however much I love a gennie, I have to admit you're better off with the Kayfun style if you prefer cotton/silica.

oh I'll be going mesh eventually, plenty of time to experiment. But right now I know cotton best, its going to be the easiest to set up, and I have all the parts for it. OK let me ask you this. If I go with one of the other two, I can justify the cost of a IGO-w as well. Does that change your tune? Which would you chose as the "runner up"?

Cotton wicks are excellent in glass tank toppers.

Wherever the ARMY sends me
I have a real Kraken and the Hcigar as well. I use dual micro coils with 26 gu wire with 10 wraps around a 12 gauge blunt needle with cotton wicks and it rocks. this setup makes it super easy to change out, just pull the old wick fire the device and burn off all the crap from the coils, on the last burn I get it red hot and put it under the water facet and just slid in new wicks, done.

I like the Kraken because of the adjustable air flow. I have to say that the Hcigar works just as good as my original (not really into clones but I couldn't resist this one)

I also use micro coil and cotton in my Kayfun lite which is sweet as well. Kayfuns are a good starting point, not real easy to setup a dual coil though.
