.......maybe its time for this old hippie to take a class!!!

Well if you could change to another browser, you would be safer online. Firefox and Opera are good choices (I don't like Chrome as it has spyware, and I can't be ***ed to keep upgrading the Sware Iron version).

Firefox has lots of useful widgets and watchamacallits you can add. One of them is a thingy* that makes it look like IE. Opera is faster and has a very nice visual bookmark system, and might be a better choice if you don't want to add much in the way of doofers**.

* The technical term for a skin or template
** Techspeak for plugins

p.s. google for 'opera download', get it, install it. Free.

I haven't used IE for any site that didn't explicitly require IE (stupid, but a few sites I have to deal with at work do) for ... jeez, I dunno how long. I used Netscape for the longest time, then its sort-of successor, then Phoenix (early Firefox beta) and have been using Firefox since like the 0.x days. Tried Chrome, didn't really "do it" for me, nor did Opera, not really a big fan of Safari, either. I dunno, Firefox just has everything I want. No real reason to switch. And it's not IE, which is the main thing.

Yeah, Google knows waaaaay too much about me, possibly too high a price I pay for speed. I have met Big Brother and his name is Google. I hear they're buying up the whole radio spectrum too. Getting hard to fight The Man. Make that resistance is futile. :(

I run a large computer related business. It does make sense that IE users would have a slightly lower IQ because its just the dumb browser that's already installed. And it happens to be the worst.

The rule is not 100% of course. Many brilliant people are computer illiterate.

If you have a PC, get Google Chrome. Safest browser for people with a high IQ. :p

I personally use Chrome, but I really WANT to like IE9. It does hardware acceleration the best, it flies. But randomly, it bottoms out on a link that would have opened in Chrome without any bother.

Even tried going back to Firefox, but no. Chrome gets opened again.

The daft part is, Chrome has the simplest interface, has less features and is the easiest to use so no idea how you could relate that to IQ in any given sense. LoL

I've used all of the aforementioned browsers....here's how i rank them

General Usage
1) Firefox
2) Chrome
3) Opera
4) IE
5) Safari (because it simply sucks to develop for any web devs here should know the pain of trying to make the UI work with all browsers and if you get your stuff working for all other browsers chances are Safari will suck on the rendering!)

Safety
1) Safari (simply because no one in their right mind should use it...well other than Steve Jobs and the Mac fan club)
2) Chrome
3) Firefox
4) Opera
5) IE (security just ain't their thing...)

Website Compatibility
1) IE (why? because too many people just use what's installed so web devs generally code for it more than any other browser)
2) Firefox, Chrome, Opera (these are a tie due to them being for the most part from the same framework)
3) Safari (rendering web pages especially dynamic websites (let's be honest are there any static web pages still out there?)

CPU/Memory Utilization
1) IE (mostly due to M$ being able to more tightly integrate into the OS)
2) Opera
3) Safari
4) Chrome
5) Firefox (huge resource hog but best experience IMO)

my credentials....12+ years in IT and software development. of course there will be others who'll chime in and their experience may differ. as always YMMV...

I am on Indian land
This reminds me of my all-time favorite, 100% Hand to the Deity, Djinn, Spirit, or Ancestor of Your Choice True Tech Support Tale.

It was a few years ago, right about now - the first part of August.

I suggested to a lady that she look at her new website in Firefox so she could see the cool shadows and round corners and things.

Her granddaughter, who was visiting, "helped" her download and install it, and she was delighted with how much better the site looked.

The granddaughter ended her visit and went off to her first day of school - ever!

The next day, the lady called, very frustrated and upset, because no matter how many times she clicked her Internet Explorer icon, just like she had always done, in all her years of online experience, Firefox simply would not open so she could show her pretty new website off to another one of my fellow old people.

"Well," I began hesitantly. "Firefox is a different browser, so you'd need to click - "

"What?" the lady interrupted, "Aren't YOU my browser?"

I have IE, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. (I sometimes do web work and like to check it in multiple browsers). I prefer Chrome out of all of them (firefox is a resource hog IMO) but I generally use IE. The reason for this is when I have to view live cameras for work IE is the only one that supports it (or perhaps its the other way around) and I usually forget to switch back to Chrome. I still have Chrome as my default though. *shrug*
