Firefox + Noscript & Adblock addons = Never get a virus.

please look into it everyone. majority of viruses and malware on your computer comes from scripts ran on websites...noscript blocks all of that

but scripts "are" needed to run most websites properly, noscript lets you "allow" scripts from sites you trust, and will remember, so its a one time thing for sites you visit on a regular. youll be surprised how much unnecessary crap loads from every website.

that said, google chrome is faster than firefox, but google likes to gather all your damn info and don't allow addons for some ......ed reason. so firefox is a must imo.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using Adblock for a while and swear by it but didn't know about Noscript. I'm adding it...now.

Hidden Microsoft: Which browser is more secure IE8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.5, Chrome 4, or Opera 10?

Not justifying IE use, I don't use it, but go read it.

"IE8 caught 85% of the live threats.
Apple Safari caught 29% of the live threats.
Mozilla Firefox 3.5 caught 29% of the live threats.
Google Chrome 4 caught 17% of the live threats.
Opera 10 caught less of the 1% of the live threats."
not sure on the other browsers...but FF current version is 5 so that is rather outdated (not to mention sponsored by M$ :D)

I loathe IE, and I don't even want it on my machine. There are a few sites that require it-I went to renew my FIL's boat registration and it wouldn't even let me proceed to the necessary forms without opening up that old mess.

I was peeved when I got my laptop with Windows 7 that they intentionally made it virtually impossible to remove. Of course everyone has figured out how to get it done since but having to dig so much bloat out of the reg is a pain.

What you can do is block it in your PC's firewall - for example a good one like Online Armor will allow you to easily, selectively block applications from dialing out. You could do that for Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, and ftp.exe (malware can use that to phone home with).

I already use AVG, Advanced System Care & Malwarebite's, 'anti' (protected) up the wazoo! Still need Online Armor? :)
