So....a about a month ago I was about 6 weeks into vaping w/o smoking any analogs and totally satisfied with my first purchace (VV V3 and a Mini PT2) that got me started vaping. All was good in the world til I joined this forum. I sit here now vaping my first DIY juice that doesn't quite taste like I hoped. I'm pretty sure it's cuz the V3 and PT2 are inadequate. Was convinced a VTR ( I like the form factor) would help the situation until I started reading thread on here about the pros and cons of a VTR. Of course (after much more reading on here) a Kayfun is required to get great taste without dripping and the Kayfun is not really VTR compatable......Even went to the local B&M store and checked them out. ( I swore I would never spend that much to vape) Kayfun would be OK if the VTR extension was a bit shorter. B&M price is about twice as online but I like supporting local businesses.

If this sounds rather confusing, that because I am. If it wasn't for this dang forum I would still be happily avoiding analogs content with my V3.......

Recommendations?

Nothing wrong with the vv3; I have two of 'em, and use them regularly, even though I now also have a Sigelei -- which I also love, and I have a Kayfun for it, but the vv3's still get a great deal of use with my new cartotank and my Mini PT II.

If you're serious about a VTR (I love those, think that'll be my first -- and probably only -- box mod!), maybe cartotanks are a good choice for it? I really enjoy my new cartotank, I use it in the morning when I can't be arsed to disassemble/reassemble the kayfun.

I got a SmokTech U-DCT, because the carto separating from the tank at inopportune times -- like when removing the tank from a battery -- is just the pits. The U-DCT has an extra "locking" ring to prevent that from happening, and it's absolutely great.

I don't agree. There is nothing wrong with your setup. You made your first batch of juice and it didn't live up to your expectations. How much time have you spent reading over on the DIY forum. Have you asked for any suggestions on your recipe? DIY takes time, patience, trial & error, tweaking. Some juice needs to steep. If DIY was that easy we would all be making our own juice and selling it online.

You can throw a lot of money at a new setup -- but in the end, you'll still be disappointed with your juice. Just my :2c:

Thanks Andria....That clears everything up! Although I've read a number of your posts and thought about bookmarking some cuz they are so simple to understand, I have no clue what that last para means........ Off to do some research.

Oh and as for DIY juice, I think it's best to keep it simple.

In the long run, figuring out your hardware goes a long way towards taste.

Naw, It's not just the DIY, some store bought juice tastes good for a bit then seems to fizzle out. Maybe the cheap Kanger coils????? Point is, if you read enough here, you convince yourself you need more stuff! Been good so far but am heavily tempted.

Try rewicking your protank coils with cotton.
One of the most dramatic impovements I've gotten.

Stop throwing away your protank coils – ITCVapes

You should try your hand at rebuilding those Kanger coils! The flavor really pops with a good coil and a little cotton! I couldn't believe the difference! Plenty of tutorials on how, its super easy!

Sent from my Atari 2600 using Tapatalk.

Yep, watched all the videos, got the Kanthal on the workbench with the cotton, very mechanically inclined, worked in the electronics field for 35 years..... Just gotta get my reading glasses out and convince the wife that's more important than her honey do's!:p

There is nothing wrong with your hardware, and it seems strange that your dissatisfaction only came after you made your own juice. Now you say that using the juice you had before in the setup you had before is no good anymore. there must be something that has changed?

The only con with the VTR is the 19mm restriction to the size of tank that will fit inside the body without that dam adapter. But there are so many decent tanks that will fit, its not a problem. I have a protank 2 mini on an eGO and I can say the iClear30s that come with the VTR beats the protank hands down. Its only if you use rda's that you will have a problem.
The VTR version 2 has the 510 connection issues fixed so no more inaccurate resistance readings.

I think I may not be clear. My dissatisfaction came after getting on this forum and learning that if I had better equipment the flavor would be so much better. Have fought the urge and still have my original set up but am starting to believe the majority here. Especially when it comes to Kayfuns

All I can say is I'm vaping along just fine with my VTR and iClear 30s tanks (like the one that comes with it). Well, that and the opinion a Kayfun is vaping nirvana is an opinion. One you may or may not share once you got one.

There's a big part of this vaping thing that is purely subjective. Maybe the Kayfun is the ultimate vape. I dunno. Never tried one. But me and the VTR are over here trying to fill the room with big, billowy clouds o' wintergreen...

Speaking of kanger coils. I'm reading I need somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 wraps to get near 2 ohms but I swear the stock coils don't have more than 6....think that's why they are inferior?

No.
Pay no attention to those people who say blah blah blah and don't mention that they are using 28 gauge wire etc.

Normal gauge is 30 and 32 gauge; 28 is easier to work with and often used on proper rebuildables with a 1 inch wide deck of space to work with, not a 5mm confined space of a protank coil where even though you think you got it to fit, when you put the spire on, the spire shorts out on the coil.
