My first rba was the "octopus" style and I loved it. I managed to get consistent quality coils pretty much right away, and it always gave me a pretty good to great vape so long as my wick was good. I got an IGO-L about a month ago and I can NOT get a good vape with this thing! I've moved the cap around to adjust the airhole, I've adjusted the position of the coil, changed my wraps, etc. and nothing is working. I use 32g wire and cotton wick, and every setup I've tried with the IGO has been really harsh. I've read/heard that drilling the air hole gives some people a better vape, and I'm willing to try it, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Am I alone with this? Am I missing something lol?

There is only one good way to position the coil and air hole. The coil needs to be at the same position vertically as the air hole and the air hole needs to point directly at the middle of the coil. The coil and the air hole need to be on the same side of the posts. Any other position will be more harsh than it should be.

Follow these guidelines with a 1.5 ohm coil of your 32 gauge. The vape should be pretty good, unless you are doing something weird like running the coil between the posts (not sure if there is enough room to do this, I don't own an IGO-L).

If you can, post a picture of your fully set up wick and coil. It makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot.

The stock IGO-L performed great, better if you open up the air hole though 5/32" most people who do not vape subΩ would hate.

Wash any new RBA with soap and water (that goes for SS mesh too) prior to use to remove the machine oil used in the manufacturing process.
If you are wrapping the coil on the wick too tight you are choking off both flavor and vapor.
Air hole alignment has been mentioned above already.
Make sure your wick is not covering the air hole.

I can't speak for a cotton wick, but silica vapes like a monster in an IGO-L. It's all in the set up which is about a basic as it gets. You are missing something obvious. Pix would help.

sorry to jump in on this thread, but i'm having problems with my igo-l as well. the airhole is too low on the cap (it's right at the higher of the 2 rings machined into the cap). i don't want to leave the legs of my coil too long (cause, as we know, wire that's not touching wick causes harsh/nasty vapes), but i can't think of a better way to get the coil in front of the air hole...(hole is drilled out to 3/32nds, provides exactly the draw i'm looking for). halp?

Tardcore, Try a micro coil and move it closer to the hole. A wraps touching coil virtually eliminates hot legs and gives you more flexibility in positioning. As previously posted, vertical placement has a huge effect on flavor and th. too low is really harsh, too high, muted and bland. Also a +1 on larger air holes for side air drippers. I drilled my octopus(a bottom air) with a 1/16" hole in the top groove, and things got better right away.
