I've had the IGO-S for a bit and it's my favorite dripper. I figured the L would be more of the same but bigger, but I'm having trouble getting it set-up for a good vape. I think the issue is with the S I could just build my coil right up to the posts and line up the air-hole right at the coil very close to it, but with the L being so much bigger and the center post being right in the center, it's harder to set it up so I can get the air-hole to line up how I like it with my coil.

The first couple set-ups were fails, so hoping to get some advice, tips, or pictures to show me how you all set up your IGO-L. I'm have on hand 3mm German silica, twisted 2mm silica, and Kanthal and Nichrome from 30-32 ga. Thanks for any help, feel free to show off your best set-up!

Here are a few tutorials

How To Rebuild A Silica RBA - YouTube
Rebuild tutorial with VapeLyfe - YouTube
A PBusardo Review - The IGO-L RBA - YouTube

I wanted to try an iGO-S, but I was worried about the center post insulator when using mesh.
Does the insulator extend out further on the iGO-S when compared to the iGO-L? [ In height and diameter ]
On the newer iGOs coming out, the insulator appears to extend further on the post and have a wider diameter.

Not my best setup, but its easy, simple and vapes consistent, giving the best flavor I've experienced.

Vapelyfe and beanpusher have some sick setups, check them out.

Hope this was helpful

Thanks that does help. The first two videos they folded over the silica more to make larger wraps and spaced them out more than I was. Maybe the larger wraps would make the coil closer to the edge so I can line up the air-hole closer. I noticed they modified the air-hole, but I like the draw as it is. I tried having the leg of the center post wire extend out more once but that resulted in a hot spot in that area for a metalic taste. The next I pulled the coil up close, but the air-hole would be so far away, so like I said I'll try larger wraps.

By center post insulator I'm guessing that's the silicon piece? If so the one on my IGO-S is smaller in diameter than the one on the L. Pushing it down it's not quite as flush as the L but only sticks up a tiny bit.

I've been using 3 1" long pieces of 3mm silica to make a nice big coil so that it sits closer to the air hole in the cap. I get easily 20 drops in it with this wick too. 4 wraps of 32g kanthal gives me 1.4-1.6 ohms. It definitely performs better that way for me. I also drilled out the air hole to 1/16, which I highly recommend if you don't mind the open draw.

Thanks, that's how I plan on setting it up next. I'm not a fan of airy draws, I bored it out a tiny bit with a nail but that's as far as I want to go. Want the flavor to be as good as my set-up with my IGO-S more than anything.

I do wish the air-hole was a little higher. It's right at the base with the cap on. I was thinking of using an oring on the thread to raise the cap up a little.

The first one I got right when they first came out has a much higher air hole and I really wish they wouldn't put em so low now. The igo s air hole is too low in my opinion as well. On my igo s the coil has to be way too close to the insulator to be directly in front of the air hole. I'd almost rather buy em with no hole and do it my self.

Try raising the coil to an angle, higher on the post closest to the edge, and position the airhole to the bottom center of the coil, forcing the air to flow directly to the coil.

Attach the "over leg" to the center post, and the "under leg" to the negative post, which will give the coil a slight angle. Then adjust the height of the coil to the airhole so the air flows to the bottom center of the coil. Try positioning the airhole next to the negative post to provide the shortest distance to the coil.

Don't forget to check for hot legs and loose coils.

Thanks, great description! I did just move the air-hole closer to the negative post and it is giving a smoother vape which I like.

The last picture is close to how I just set it up, minus the mesh over the silica, and it's working a lot better. Does't the one above it and even the rest get hot spots on the legs?

Nope. That was my point. As soon as you shrug off the "long legged hot spot" myth, you can get alot more creative with your builds. More importantly, you realize you can put that coil wherever you want it. I do keep long legs at equal lengths, though, to balance the coil glow. Remember, a healthy coil glows hottest in the center. White in the middle, silver on the ends.

Hmmm. When I tried with one long leg everything glowed evenly, but when the wick is soaked to vape the one leg would glow since there was no wick or liquid to cool it down and it tasted metallic. Maybe it works different for mesh wicks?

mesh is the hardest, everything else is falling down easy.

OK, tell me your not a photographer . . . . go ahead . . . . .. like I'd believe you weren't a photographer

edit: I mean to say, "nice pic"

A photographer would never have had focus on the rim of the mod instead of on the coil, nor allow that huge distraction across the top third of the image.

:p

j/k, nice pic. :D

So as long as I make both legs equally as long neither will glow while vaping? I'll have to try that next.

If you have 2 to 2 1/2" of wire, the first 1/2" of either end won't glow. If you have other issues, like a tight or loose coil on mesh, or an electrical short into the mesh, that's another story. HEY! Donnah just pulled up the old thread I was looking for!
