Just got a couple in today for the first time. Looks like there is a wicking material under the bridge. Never seen this in an atty before. Looks like they are strands sticking out the sides under the bridge. Is this normal? I have only used one other atty (magma) and seen pics of Joye's but never came accrossed this.

That's perfectly normal for Joye and SLB 510 atties. In fact, I've never seen a 510 atty without it. I do have two 510 Magma atties from Volcano (I think made by Boge) which I don't use. They have a metal washer above the cup just like 901 atties. I'll have to check them out.

Not sure if I explained well enough in my previous post. I'm not talking about the metal wick part that is on the bridge and around....it is a fiber (cloth strands) under the bridge. I have removed the bridge on one of my Volcano Magma atties before and didn't see this. Does this help?

Hey Max,
Yea, I'm pretty sure Vaporlogist is referring to the poly wick. It's fairly common to receive them this way. It's the manufacturing process. Sometimes they come out a bit frayed. It should be fine. I had a few come out this way for personal use. Over the course of a month or so, it kept bothering me, so I pulled it out then the atty was inoperable. Let's give it two weeks of usage if something happens, we'll take care of you.

Yes, all Joye and SLB 510 atties have this wicking material. It's just a part of the design.

Edit:
Even though the wicking material is supposed to help wick the liquid to the atty, some people who drip exclusively prefer to pull it out. If you think you should, here's a how-to-video:

OK...no problem. It's no biggie just something I noticed. Like I said previously, I removed the bridge on a Volcano Magma (510) atty and didn't see any wicking material in that one. Do most atty's have this material like Iken's atty's?
... as Vaporologist said yes. Caveat...

There is nothing wrong with removing the wick but it will diminish the effectiveness of the atty to be used with carts. Removing the bridge on the other hand, renders the atty virtually useless unless it is used exclusively for dripping.

Yeah taking the bridge out was a bad idea. I only drip or use cartos anyhow but when I took the bridge out it made it way to difficult to use.

On another note, I took the wicking out of the atty's I got from Iken. I had already used one a little before I did so and the wicking was burnt when I took it out. Should be good to go now :)
