The Il house of representatives votes this morning on a bill to ban e-cig stuff. It's up in threads elsewhere but us newbs can't post! Anyone worried? It already passed the Il Senate.

I'm not worried about it as I am not surprised about it either. The U.S. Government is a corporation that ultimately is run by money, power, and greed. I mean theoretically; why would you wanna ban e-cigarettes when they have the potential to save thousands of lives, have no poisonous chemicals in them that cigarettes do, and prevent pollution of our environment that cigarettes do? Well, I'll tell you why, because they can't put a tax stamp on it, and because the tobacco companies will take a huge financial loss. I mean, every year the tobacco companies donate millions of dollars to the government, so if they lose out on money, that means that the government will also; hence the reason they are trying to ban e-cigarettes. Bull.... if you ask me.

I think they'll eventually figure out a way to regulate and tax the e-cigs. Maybe they'll cut the big tobacco companies in on the loot or something.

I assume they can't ban the devices (since they can vape non nicotine product) so my second assumption is that if this ban fever starts spreading around to other states, it will be prudent to stock up on nicotine now rather than later.

As I understand, the Senate Committee hearing the proposed legislation is taking testimony and deciding on whether to pass the bill on to the state senate. Many CASAA, ECF reps and other vapers are at Springfield this morning to speak on OUR behalf. Vendors are also speaking. The committee could actually decide, eventually, to kill the bill, I believe. I'm pretty sure that's what happened in Maryland. It died in committee.
I do not believe a full legislative vote is anywhere near to being taken.

It already passed Il Senate. It's currently in HHS committee in the House of Reps and the Rep who introduced stated yesterday that he intends to call it THIS MORNING. It's tough to track the progress on this site and CASAA because it's poorly (not) centralized and spread out over too many different threads so I can't even remember which poster (that's down in Springfield today) called the Reps office. No time to dig around to give you a citation to it, busy getting the word out and emailing!

Maybe this is a stupid question, so forgive me if that is the case, but is nicotine a controlled substance?

Nicotine is a stimulant yes, just like caffeine. This isn't about the fact that nicotine is a toxic controlled substance, this is ultimately about money. You have to read between the lines and realize that R.J. Reynolds will not donate the amount of money they usually do if they start losing money because of E-cigarettes becoming mainstream. And seeing that Illinois is probably one of the most corrupt states in the U.S., they'll be first in line to try to ban something if they don't get their cut of the money.

I heard that even if it does pass there is a loop hole that you can still buy stuff on-line. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Col., they're not trying to ban sales of E-cigarettes completely, they're just trying to ban stores and gas stations from selling them; at least here in Illinois they are. All the gas station chains are now selling them (Citgo, Mobil, Shell, etc.) as well as most tobacco stores. They even have signs in the windows "We now sell Electronic Cigarettes". You can still purchase them online.

As I understand it, the bill only bans in state sales, not online sales. But since this bill was part of a trend it's still important to help work to defeat it. It'd be great to have it killed in committee today, so that people would be able to focus efforts only on New York (the Maryland bill died in committee, and I believe the California bill was amended to only prohibit sales to minors, though i don't think it's been voted on yet)

In case this doesn't get called today or even if it's postponed, their staffers getting hammered with emails will be communicated to the Reps no matter where they are! Here's the contact info for the Reps. on the committee. Saturate them! Keep it civil but forceful. Remember, this bill was introduced in and has already passed the Il Senate.

From what I hear all the cigs that they sell in those stores are garbage anyway but I guess the point is that it has more of a chance in letting the general public know that there is an alternative out there.

Thanks for the scoop!

This part
sold in the State or to consumers in the State
tells me online purchases are verboten also. And even if one interprets it differently - like a house of cards the rest will follow soon.
