I recently moved down to the US. I had to leave a few boxes with a close friend so that he could ship them down once I landed. It took him 3 weeks to finally do it, but they arrived yesterday.
I immediately knew something was wrong when one of the boxes was missing a bunch of stuff. I knew it was him because he wrote something on the customs form I didn't tell him was in the box.
I called him on this. He initially tried to lie about it. I eventually got him to admit it. He went on the defensive and says he's not shipping anything without knowing what it is. A friend of 18 years should be able to trust their friend. He should know I would never have him ship anything illegal (not sure exactly what it would even be that he thought I'd have him ship!?).
He went through all of the boxes. A midi keyboard was destroyed because of it. The power cable to my iMac is missing, so I know he took that out of the box and booted it up. Not sure what he was looking for, but it's safe to assume he likely rummaged through my external hard drives as well.
One box in particular that was missing contained something I really cherished. It had an orion, modified with a pailpoe v1.1 switch, the new terminals, a custom Griffin leather holster and my first Trippy tip. Out of all the e-cig stuff I've owned, this is what I decided to keep when I sold everything else (needed the $). These were very important to me.
He wouldn't admit to taking this stuff out, but I know he's lying. If he took other stuff out, he took this out too. Almost certain his wife put him up to it in the first place, as she's ridiculously paranoid. He's not into e-cig stuff, so it probably ended up in the trash.
I'm not sure what I find more upsetting, losing my orion set up which I can't afford to replace, or a friendship which I thought would last a lifetime but is now dead.
I feel sick.
