There are many new threads daily opened by 1st time posters seeking advice on what PV to get. Almost all responses are the the traditional starter kits. Which is great!!! Btw those kits stopped me from my very last cigarette......good right? So I say continue with that advice. All I do is once per thread offer an option of a mod.....NOT A REO or any hi-end box mod...but an inexpensive one. Again just as a option to the 99% egos & rivas being pushed on the new members. My purpose is to try and save some of them money by-passsing all the accessories and upgrades a lot of us have gone thru. Box mods are not for everyone but I dont see the harm in exposing newbies to the possibilities. Evidently my opinions in a sea of many is seen as harmful. I have been commented on and PMed to quit suggesting mods to newbies. Screw them. Im done and tired of being attacked. We all have good intentions to help but I guess Im seen as some evil pusher selling crack to kids. What important is they quit smoking cigarettes which at least is one thing we all agree on. Maybe our new 1st timer REOnouts can make the case better than someone like me with over 3500 posts and sporting a big ol' fat REO signature. lol

Honestly as much as I love REO, I think for it to be appreciated you have to go through the evolution yourself.

I used to hang there and give advice. I would still recommend a riva kit with boge SR or LR cartomizers to newbs.

I know the REO is easy, and people have started with them.

As far as mods, I can't think of any other I would suggest other than a REO of some kind though.

I still use my Riva batts sometimes so even if they move on to mods the Ego/Riva makes a great back up anyway.

I suggest the Riva SE kits because they charge to 4.2 and operate at true 3.7 volts.
Egos are 3.2 volts and thats a world of difference IMO

I hear what you're saying. For now, I'm back to suggesting the 808's again, since I've seen such an improvement in function. But imo, IF you can talk a noob into getting a mod of some sort, you're doing them a favor. Some mods make vaping so easy, and hassle free. Not all, but some. I also think that if someone is really going to get into vaping, andhave gotten past the "trying it out phase", then having a collection of several diff ecigs\mods is going to up their chance of success.

I think the REO's would do great for newbies but I think Robert needs to supply the necessary components directly from his website or as a bundle package with the Reo case. The mod is great but it was a hassle trying to get the components from various sources because of shipping costs and being worried about inconsistency.

Just my 2 cents,

And also, don't let those a-holes stop you from recommending something you love.

unsure, you know I hang out in the New Member forum pretty regularly, and I haven't seen you post ANYTHING that was out of line, or anything other than a possible option for a newcomer to consider. It is important that the noobs get good information, and losing an established member like you would be a loss. I agree with Elendil. If you are getting nasty PM's from posting your opinion, the mods need to know about it so they can stop it. I might be next.

Don't give up, unsure............ maybe just a break. Us newbies really need the veteran's help. We do appreciate you and all we have to learn. I'm just now have a mod on it's way to me. I got my first 510 starter kit on March 5th, mainly due to Miss Nomad's videos. I thought, gee, if I can get all this help, I'll be able to do it. THEN, I found ecf and all the helpful people here. I don't know what I would do without the help I get here. So, hang in there, sometimes, we are really desperate.

If you are getting unwanted and harassing PM's please report them. Chances are if they are doing it to you, it is happening to others as well. They only way we know if it is happening is if our members report it.

If I made it sound like hate mail mail thats not the case I deleted them already. Like I said I NEVER push a hi-end mod or even mentioned a brand name. I did point out Brad Smith (and ECF supplier) deal on a simple box mod with 2 batts, charger, free juice & free shipping for $30 which is equal to most ego & rivas starter kits. Never more than 1 post per thread. Never engaged in any arguements or replies to negitive comments. Maybe they need to go thru the same step by step most of us did....just tried to open eyes to an other option.

Everyones advice should be considered, including your own. Ultimately its up to the OP asking the question as to which direction they will take. Sometimes the noob will follow the masses looking for something small and cancer stick like, and some of those will decide real quick charging batteries is a PITA. The masses are going to suggest the ego or riva due to the sheer numbers. I myself only use my ego when I want to drip different flavors with a LR306. The rest of the time I double fist my box mods. And the batteries are dirt cheap.

I'm in agreement. ECF is only as good as we all make it. It's time to give the boot to these jerks who think they know more than what they really do know. Let the Moderators know what you've been receiving and get them out of here. We do not want or need them if this is how they act.

DO NOT go unsure. DO NOT GO.:thumb:

Honestly I think when people first want to try vaping, they want something that resembles a cigarette. I did, and most everyone on the newbie threads seem to lean that way too. I think it's a subconscious/comfort thing kicking in, something just like a cigarette. Well, that soon goes away,or it did in my experience. I think this is why most people suggest a ego/riva or something similiar to newbies.

Don't give up unsure...you might help one person to avoid all the cost and hassle of a multitude of devices before they try a mod. And, if you helped one, then it was worth it.

Hugs

I really think that newbies need to kind of go through the evolution too but I certaily wouldn't hesitate to recommend something other than an Ego. There are smaller mods that are great starters. If Rob offered a starter kit that'd be great but I know that's lots of components to keep up with. One stop shopping is always easier but sometimes the builders just need to focus on the mods themselves and not everything else and I think Rob is doing what he does best, make great mods.

It's crappy that someone would dissuade you for offering good, sound advice. We're all different and need different things and the great thing about vaping is that the perfect individual combination is out there waiting to be discovered but it has to be discovered by the individual.

Keep up the good work unsure. The newbs need people like you.

I'm brand new to this forum, and to vaping, so I don't have much a clue. However, I'd like to give a Reo Mini a shot. Only problem is, I have no idea when I could actually get one. The site is pretty vague.

My egos are working out OK, and I don't think I'll regret buying them. I may, however, regret all the bulk cartos I bought, assuming I like the Reo Mini. Then again, I may like the Provari. For me, that's a problem with many of these mods, for newbies. We just have to wait too long, before we can get our hands on them. I ordered an ego form Liberty-Flights, however, and had it in 48hrs. It set me back less than $40, and I always have a backup or giveaway.

Just a thought, and I don't mean to derail the thread. Having been in many online forums, and as the founder/moderator of one, I know these things can get frustrating.

Now, when could a newbie like me expect to get a Mini? I think I sent a query, but have heard nothing back...

What Clumsy said...

Looking back I wouldn't trade my progression for anything. It helped me start to quit smoking and then helped me quit completely. I look at my toybox full of mods and each one is special for different reasons and I don't want to ever have to give any of them up.

Bingo!! I know that what I wanted. When the OP list that as a requirement I usually avoid posting cause it in there head they need for it to look like a cigarette. I guess its only natural. Who wants to step outside with their co-workers for a smoke with this weird device. Well I need to rant and thanks for letting me. I remember my first 510 batt and it was the beginning of my last cigarette I ever smoked so.......then it was the beginning of a declining bank account! lol

So true! But it's so much fun isn't it?

I remember telling Randy when we first started this: I want something that looks like a cigarette and tastes like my Marlboro Smooths, then I'm all set. 6 short months later none of my mods look like a cigarette and I'm always vaping something fruity. Ruby Relaxer today. But I had to go through the right steps to get there and without people like YOU unsure helping me along I'd have had a much tougher time.

Who-dat, I almost always recommend the Riva 510 kit from LF with 2ohm Boge cartos to new people. Easy, cheap, reliable and fast. Now that you have started vaping, you probably have a better idea of what is "missing" in your experience. All mods are designed to optimize vaping, but they end up different because choices have to be made by the crafter that will enhance certain attributes, but may reduce other desireable characteristics.

Oh also, the Minis should be available in a week or two. You can use your cartos on them if you like. :)
