Okay so Im a noob but easily see the awesomeness in a PT system.

I was about to buy a premade PT from madvapes but then saw here that most USB hubs dont give out the minimum 1.5amps to have it work corectly and could damage your computer...so I have a few questions...

1. I have a powered 7 port USB hub. This one: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=149
Since it is powered does that have any chance of having enough power(1.5-2.0amps)? Is there an easy way to test if it does? (Voltmeter? My roommate would help, lol)

2. Is there a VERY SIMPLE (or close to it) PT mod that somebody could link me to on here. I want to use cartomizers with it if that makes any difference.

3. Do the pass throughs that also double as a battery once you remove them require that same amount of power or are they okay to plug in and use as sort of a semi pass thru (or whatever you want to call it).

Thanks and apologies for the ignorance :p

Look on the AC adapter and see how many mA/Amps it's putting out.

Yes it makes a difference, but cartos can range from 1.5Ω to ~ 3.2Ω which also make the biggest difference when looking for a power source.

Those cartos should be fine. Nothing in the specs on that hub suggest whether the power load across the ports is on demand or divided.
It wouldn't hurt to try it and see if you get good vapor from your PT without the hub or adapter heating up.
If it doesn't work there are many vendors now carrying the wall wart with higher amps for usually around 10 bucks.

From experience (since I had the same question you did, essentially) - a 5V "pure" PT will run on a 7-port USB hub just fine. Mine has a 3.8A power supply on it (it's a Belkin,) and it works like a champ. That being said, YMMV of course... but it's better to blow up a $40 USB hub than to blow up a $900* computer, no?

* Probably closer to $300 nowadays, but I custom build my computers. ;p

.... snip .... 3. Do the pass throughs that also double as a battery once you remove them require that same amount of power or are they okay to plug in and use as sort of a semi pass thru (or whatever you want to call it).

Battery PTs usually only draw about 400-500 ma and should be fine. The direct 5v pt's need the amps (about 2.0 amps +/- depending on atty ohms).

.... snip .... Is there a VERY SIMPLE (or close to it) PT mod that somebody could link me to on here. I want to use cartomizers with it if that makes any difference..

Re: cartos... it's the ohms that count, not carto vs atty (as a generalization)
Re: easy PT.... Ground wire to shell/side of atty connector. Hot wire to button, button to atty center. Use a 3.0 amp or higher button. Cut the 2 data wires and insulate them.

P.S. New 2.0 amp wall wart = $10.00
