I'm guessing this will be an easy question here for people in the know how, Battery dented by Vamo ?

I took out my Panasonic CGR18650CH out of my vamo v5 today and found that the bottom base of the battery that is positioned nearest to the bottom closing battery cap on the V5 (the minus side), had been dented in with a circular motion. My mum accidently knocked the V5 over last knight from a 2 foot distance, i dont know how hard the impact was. I also during the day popped the battery back by unscrewing the middle of the Vamo rather then the base battery closer. I have now took the spring out of the battery closer base, and pushed inwards on the spring so it shortens the length of it, so that hopefully it wont carve into any other batteries and not happen again in the future.

1. Has anyone else had this happen to them ?
2. The battery charged full in my i4, it works in my V5 and reads at 4.3v, is it safe to carry on using this ?

Im not fussed about the battery im more concerned as to how it happened as ive just got some new batteries delivered today, thankfully! and would hate for it to happen again so easily seeing that it was my first week using the V5 after my SVD spitting out juice for whatever reason. Thank you

Technically, lithium batteries should not be charged over 4.2 volts.

It's possible whatever you are measuring the voltage with is not precise/accurate, or the charger is actually over-charging the battery. I'm not personally a fan of charging external batteries via USB chargers. It's safer to use box battery chargers, preferably the higher end chargers which use "intelligence technology".

I'm pretty surprised by how much dent seems to be on that thing!

One test you can do is put it to stand on a flat surface and if it falls over it definitely fails.
If it doesn't sit flush and can wobble, then it basically is suspect.

I've got a row of batts I am looking at right now and theres 1 that if I took a pic with the lighting just right, might resemble a couple of your pics. The indentation in mine is enough that I can feel it. But that's to be expected in a bottom fired mechanical mod where there is no spring.

Just would not feel safe using that battery anymore. The possible bad far outweighs the 10 bucks for a new battery.

It not about buying them its more about the inconvenience in my instance i bought 2 of these with my SVD when i started vaping back in 2013, they have been superb from the offset, so i always thought to myself its pointless getting anymore. That was only until i misplaced one battery and had this one left, so i placed a new order for 2 more few weeks back. Now if they all start doing the same after a few days of using the V5 i wouldnt be able to get a quick enough delivery of these. Which in reality i am guessing should not happen in the first place. Plus i was thinking maybe there are others who have had their batteries dent in the same way, and see what they may have to say also, thanks

Using the Vamo V5 to give me a reading

Yes me too i was thinking how could it be that bad surely thats not right. i would say its about a millimetre in depth, and stands and charges fine.

Do you think you could change the coil on the V5 against something like the SVD base which feels and looks a lot safer in not damaging batteries

You know my panasonic pd 2900 have that same indentation on the bottom. Some google images show it in panny's authentics batteries. I still use mine and that "dent" has been there as long as I can remember.

I figured it was how they were made a few years ago.

A slight relief but just now making sure it doesnt happen again

I understand completely. The 2 panny pds I have have the exact same half circle indentation in the same spot. Too much of a coincidence for that to be.

ooops unless you are talking about the pushed in hole there.

I think the dent came as a result of the drop. It's not because of the spring, it is because of the drop.

or.. maybe the dent was there from before and you never noticed until you checked after the drop? because if the svd is telescopic and has no spring, the hard contact on the bottom cap is more likely to case indentation than a spring cap would.
