What follows are random thoughts and babbling. I must be very lucky...

I didn't want this to become a new obsessive hobby, but I may already be in trouble.

I started smoking at 14 with stolen (from my Mother) B&H 100 menthols. Then switched to Marlboro Reds, bought with my lunch money. Later switched to Marlboro Lights. Then to Native lights bought on the rez across the street because I can get two packs for the price of one Marlboro.

I've tried to quit many times over the years. My experiences most recently with alternative nicotine delivery systems is:

1) Patches don't last (for me) as long as they're supposed to.
2) If the gum is in my mouth, I'm going to chew it. Might as well smoke cigars. (What do you mean, "Take it out?!? And do what with it???")
3) Lozenges burn my mouth and throat. Might as well smoke cigars.
4) The side-effects from Chantix damned near killed me.

I was only vaguely aware of e-cigs. Then I spotted a starter kit in a Walgreen's, and my curiosity took off. I tried a couple of different disposables and while one was down right nasty, the other was acceptable. Fortunately, I wasn't completely dissuaded.

After doing a lot of reading (And I mean a LOT), I settled on a Joye 510 starter kit and a bottle of USA Mix 24mg. When it works, it's about as close to an analog as I could've hoped. Love at first puff. The carts can be inconsistent. And I haven't figured out why. But when they're working right, they're awesome. Much better than I expected.

Then one day, I went to unplug a fully charged battery and drew a spark about a quarter inch long the second I touched the charger. The battery flashed and the LED on the charger went out. Dead. Very dead.

In a panic, I ordered a 510-T starter kit because I was already wishing for greater juice capacity. In the meantime, I went up to that store on the rez and bought a pack of Native Silvers (Ultralights). Analogs are NASTY, NASTY, NASTY! That’s when I decided that (still having nothing to lose) it was an opportunity to play with variable voltages.

After hacking together a socket, I played around a bit with some cheap cartos, and a stock 510 atty. No real surprises here. The greater the voltage the greater the TH and vapor. Not wanting risk the stock atty, I ran the el-cheapo all the way up to 6V expecting it to fry. It actually seemed to happier there. It was pulling almost 2 Amps, sizzling and popping, but it still works.

Still waiting for my 510-T system, and contemplating whether I could fix the charger, I noticed a jack on the side of it, "DC IN 12-24V." Since I happened to have a wall-wart that met the requirement, and having nothing to lose, I hooked it up and plugged it in. EUREKA! A green LED smiling back at me. Screw in a battery - three flashes and a red LED on the charger - back in business. Ahhh... Sometimes life is good.

Enter the 510-T. For me, near perfection. Although with the USA Mix 24mg, the throat-hit is near atomic, it is extremely consistent. A lower nico level and/or some fiddling with custom blends is in order. (Chocolate? Kona?!? Uh-oh...)

I only have a few minor gripes:

1) For the AC side of the charger to die from a static discharge represents poor electrical engineering. Probably something as simple as a clamping diode is missing.
2) Inconsistent 510 cart performance. Maybe it's just rookie-ism.
3) The 510-T tanks need a cap so I can fill several after they've been punctured. They don't leak a lot, but any is too much.

For refererence:
The impedance of my 510 attys is 3.2 Ohms.
The impedance of my 510-T atty is 2.4 Ohms. That probably explains the atomic TH.
The impedance of the cheap cartos is 3.1 Ohms.

Hi and welcome to ECF. Yep I have a charger that came with my starter kit (Megalodon) and it's literally falling apart. Starter Kit Chargers and delivery systems seem to be the weak link for Ecigs and I've decided to bite the bullet and purchase an upgraded charger. Too bad vendors don't offer an upgrade when we purchase the kits.
Happy Vaping, Vapoor.
P.S. What really propelled my decision to upgrade my charger was reading about numerous mishaps/ dangerous issues with the cheaper ones.

Ah. That reminds me about minor gripe #4. There's no reason at all why these things can't use a drop-in charger. Screwing in the batts is just plain silly. That's my next hack.

Welcome to the ECF. If you find the tank/atomizer setup not doing it for you give Cartomizers a go.

I've got cartos, carts/attys, and a tank/atty. I actually like them all (when the cartos and cart/attys work like they should). They all have their pros and cons. Since I can't decide on any one, I guess I won't! :D

Thats the beauty of it all. you can swap something out every other hit if you like.

The real 510-T automatic's charging cable can damage other kinds of 510's (normal 510's, auto and manual). I would chuck it and get a normal 510 charging cable. And stay totally away from FS510 - it's reverse electrical polarity.

And then because some vendors are apparently clueless, doublecheck the mA output on the screw-in part of the cable - it should be between 150 and 250mA, not near 400mA. Some dumb vendors sent me Ego charging cables when I order 510 charging cables, and Ego charging cable (usually 420mA output) will ruin the slim batteries and destroy their ability to hold charge.

For the AC to USB parts I use standard multiport USB chargers that have 5v and 500mA (or more mA) available at each port. I think Walmart or Kmart carry 2-port ones, I own some 4-ports.

And when you are ready, consider getting a fat battery 510 model or 510-threaded mod. Even the little 3.7v plastic box mods are great little pocketable devices.

That's curious because my 510-T came with the same batts as my 510 (If we can believe Joyetech's website). What does a "real" 510-T charging cable look like? The output on mine (Model: USB-B) is 4.2V @ 200mA. My 510 starter kit's charger (Model: JOYE510) is 4.2V @150mA.

I've already started considering a box mod. But so far, I'm pleasantly surprised at the capacity of the 520 batts. 220mAH seems to go a long way...

Footnote: A decently designed Li-Ion charger is *supposed* to apply a constant current until the battery reaches peak voltage. My point here is that the 50mA difference between the two chargers sholudn't be a concern. The voltage is the critical parameter and should be precisely limted to 4.2V +-50mV.

If it turns out the the 510 and the 510-T batts are different, we'll know soon. I numbered them but I didn't pay any attention to which came with what based on the belief that they were the same.

I have been using the 510-T for a while and just bought an ego passthrough from vaporgod. I've only had it for about a week but I LOVE it. not tethered to anything! It just lets you vape while it charges, unplug and it's just a regular battery. Plus it works with all my 510 stuff. Lasts a lot longer between charges too.

True. But I'm a wireless kind of guy. Being tethered is so old school to me. ;)

I mostly use a joye 510 type PV. I also have an ego, which I do like but it's bigger so I drip with the ego while I play on the computer and use the smaller ones when out and about. I don't have the 510-T system, but I do use a clear cart tank that is similar (I think) to the tank used in the 510-T system. but mine doesn't require a special atty. I am one of the rare people who doesn't like cartomizers. here is one link that shows a picture of what I use. if you are interested, pm me and I'll send you some other vendors who carry them too. again, this uses a regular 510 atty. they work great for me!
