This is what I have so far:

Joye EGO-C Twist 1000mah Manual Battery - Stainless Steel
Vision Vivi Nova V2 Clearomizer tank System
Kangertech ProTank

I'm getting the Vision Vivi Nova and the Kanger Protank so that I have 2 options to try out. I'm also thinking of getting another ego c battery so I have a backup.

Is this all I need besides a battery charger, and eliquid?

Another question:

I've decided to get the Joye eGo-C twist 1000mah battery.

Exactly what other components do I need to be ready to go?

I know i need e-liquids, a charger, and atomizer, is that it?

For the charger, be certain you're getting one for the eGo. Like at the LiteCig site: Joye ego USB Charger. Joye's regular chargers and their eGo chargers aren't interchangeable at all. I'd definitely add an AC adapter. The chargers can run off powered USB ports but they pull a fair amount of juice and you may not have a port to spare anyway.

My Twist lasts me about 6 to 7 hours on a charge depending on the voltage I'm running at. Since I tend to use the upper end (rarely less than 4 volts, usually around 4.5), I get less than the possible 10 hours (the "rule of thumb" is 100 mAh is one hour of ordinary use of batteries but, of course, that all depends). So you'll want two. One charging, one in use.

A "pass through" is optional but nice. I see LiteCig has the one I bought: Variable Voltage EgO/510 USB Passthrough. No battery, they just run off the USB power. Handy to leave at your desk. Since I'm short powered USB ports, I grabbed an inexpensive 2 amp USB wall adapter to use with it and plug into my power strip (which is at the edge of the desk here).

Now, you don't necessarily need an atomizer per se. All the widgets you attach to the batteries have one somewhere but buying a separate atomizer depends on which way you're going. Like I use cartomizers. Such as here: 510 Black BOGE Blank Cartomizers. In fact, exactly those. Boge 510. Even black. :)

Cartomizers got their name by being a cartridge with an atomizer (cart + mizer more or less) together in one unit. Filling them is pretty simple, there are videos out there on the YouTube to show you how. They have a polyfill kind of cotton looking stuff inside that holds the juice. You can also buy them prefilled if you want though it's cheaper to fill them yourself (and gives you more control over various and sundry).

So this means I can't buy the eGo-C Twist battery, and Kanger pro tank and use them together without some kind of adapter?

Actually, you can use it. EGO style batteries (and it's a style, not a brand) have two threadings. An inner 510 thread and an outer eGo thread. Here, I nabbed a pic from a more experienced ECF member:

ego2e.jpg

So you can use 510 threaded widgets and eGo threaded widgets. I'm using 510 threaded Boge cartos even as I type this on my Twist.

But, now, one thing to understand is when it comes to what you put on you batteries, there's more than one way to go. Tank systems like the Kranger above are very popular with a lot of folks (and I have one on order to try it out) but you don't have to go that way. If you do, understand that the atomizer is part of the tank and you don't buy one separately.

Cartomizers, same thing, the atomizer is built in. Separate atomizers are for going in other directions (such as you may see somebody talk about "dripping", something you may want to try later but, for now, why get yourself confused with too much too soon? :) ).

I think you mentioned you've used cartomizers before? I've lost my place here. Lemme look... yeah, there it is.

So I'd say the easiest thing is to start with cartos. You've used them before. Buy "blanks" and learn to fill them yourself (not hard) or prefilled if you want, then try other things once you get going.

By the way, in a pinch? I've nabbed a little box of Blu cartomizers at the Walgreens and used them on my Twist. They're 510 threaded. Not the best out there but Blu's sticking them everywhere these days and that can be awful handy if you're stuck.

So I'd suggest get two Twist batteries, the "rapid" eGo USB charger, the wall adapter for the charger, and some Boge 510 blank cartos. Case if you want one.

Find some liquids to try out and off you go. Maybe toss in some prefilled cartos so you'll have something to use while figuring out filling your own.

One place to check for reputable, known vendors, by the way is in the Forum Supplier section. I've found the further you go with this vaping thing, the more you want to try different liquids and all. I doubt anybody ends up buying from only one place. Heh, I have about three vendors I'm using for liquids and looking at two more...

Okay, so even though the "starter kit" had atomizer head AND body, I guess the pro tank and the vision vivi nova come with BOTH parts, correct?

besides a back up battery, and the eqliquid, is there anything else i need as a back up?

The Protank will come with two Coil heads and the Vivi will have three. I would order at least an extra five pack of coil heads being as they are cheap. I don't know what they are charging but Discount Vaper has them five heads for 5.89.

Tank widgets like the Kranger and the Vivi Nova are complete in themselves yes. So are cartomizers. I think the kit you looked at first was a cartridge system which has a separate atomizer and tank and not the best reputation around here from what I've seen (lots of leaking I hear).

By the way, you don't necessarily need both a Kranger tank and a Vivi Nova. Unless you just want to try both. Some prefer one brand over the other. And there are lots of Kranger brand tanks and Vision brand tanks. They do essentially the same thing. You fill 'em up with liquid and screw them on your battery and vape. I'm not all that familiar with the tank or clearomizer set up myself. I'm still using cartomizers right now. I do have a Vision Mini ViVi Nova and a VISION eGo Stardust on order right now to try them out. Looking to try a Kranger later maybe.

With the eGo style batteries, being really popular, there are tons of options open to you. I wouldn't try buying too much "kit" in your first go. You're going to want to experiment. Both with liquids and widgets. Don't try to get "all set up" in one swoop. You'll just drive yourself nuts. :)

Like if you want to try the tank type systems, I'd say get a Kranger or a Vision. Maybe toss in a pack of Boge 510 cartomizers (since they're pretty cheap) in case the tank is confusing or whatever. Definitely save money for experimenting with liquids. It can take a bit to find liquids you really like and that work for you. There are so many options in nicotine levels and base liquid mixes and flavors and... and... and...

I have 12 sample bottles in play right now and more on the way. And that's just the samples. I've so far settled on 7 liquids I use regularly and am ordering big bottles of them to stock up.

So, of course, I just discovered Mt Baker. So many people around ECF just couldn't stop talking about their liquids. And wouldntcha know, they've got some really awesome stuff.

That whining sound you hear is my checking account. It's afraid I'm going to place another liquid order. :)

Wow, thanks again guys :) Everyone has been a HUGE help. mkbilbo, thank you SOOO much for explaining more in detail. I was REALLY getting confused about what additional parts I needed along with the ego twist battery, and even though a few people helped on here, it can still get very confusing! You really helped clarify the options, as I really had no idea you could use cartomizers on the ego twist battery.

Everyone has been a big help :)

I'll post back when I've ordered tonight and reply with exactly what i got!

Glad I could be some help. Of course, I'm passing on what I've learned from the more experienced folk here at ECF. If memory serves, I swiped the photo from Vapoor. Learned a lot from Katya and so many others I could spend all day trying to list everybody. :)

Does get a little overwhelming sometimes. I think that's because there is no single "right answer". There's a whole bunch of right answers. There just isn't a "one size fits all". So suggestions and opinions pour like a flood. And which ones are right? Well, all of them. Everybody's right answer depends on their tastes and their needs. Very different from cigs. Which don't have many "options". :)

...I really had no idea you could use cartomizers on the ego twist battery.

Yep. I'm doing it right now in fact. Just keep the threading in mind. The eGo style (it's not a brand but a "kind" of battery, lots of brands and variations of eGo out there) can take 510 threaded attachments and eGo threaded. Makes them one of the better options for somebody starting out. You can try out all kinds of cartos and clearos and whatzits and doo dads. :)

And "Twist" is the Joyetech variable voltage version. I have those. The "Spinner" is the variable voltage version by Vision which is also very popular around here. Both are also widely recommended from what I've read. They have a dial on the bottom of the battery you turn to adjust the voltage which changes the temperature of the atomizer's heater coil and can make a difference in the vapor produced. Some liquids are better at a lower temp, others at a higher. It's nice to be able to "twiddle" a bit. I wish I'd started out with my Twist. I bought a Blu kit (bleah).

(Oh well, it got me started and got me here to ECF and I would have blown the money on cigs anyway eh? :) )

I ordered two different sizes in battery, thinking perhaps the smaller one might be more suitable in public? Either way, it is nice to compare the same make/model, with the only variance being the battery size. It should give me an idea for future upgrades which works best (smaller size, less chrage, or bigger size, more battery life, etc)

I ordered the EVOD thing after seeing so many great reviews on this board about it.....and although I REALLY think I'd like a tank setup, considering the expense, I figured that will be to try out for another day.

I ordered the cartomizers because that is what I was already familiar with. Although mine were pre-filled, I think I will enjoy these. Thanks again to mkbilbo for letting me know this option exists :)

I didn't order a USB/Wall adapter because I already have from my other electronics (phone, camera). So I should be fine.

Thanks again everyone!

Yup. It never hurts to have a spare tank or two either, in case your evod breaks, gets lost or you just decide you want to try a different flavor without having to clean the tank. Remember, *backups for everything* including delivery devices. Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them ;)

Heh, funny you should mention that as my first tanks arrived today. So I'm trying different. :)

Then again, that's one thing I like about the eGo. With the dual threads, you can try all kinds of widgets.

Hm... double check the power rating on the adapters. They need to be 500 mA or higher. Which is common so you're probably fine.

Though if you do go for a pass through, a lot of them won't work with less than a 2 amp (my iPad wall adapter worked fine but phone adapters won't).

I'm not exactly if I'm reading the adapter right, it says:

output: 5.1v / 0.7a
Does that mean it puts out 5.1volts and 700mah?

Exactly. So that one ought to be okay for the battery charger. Or a powered USB port if you have one open (has to be powered though, like on the computer itself or a powered hub).

Looks like you're ready to get rolling. I haven't tried the EVOD myself but now you got me thinking about it. Lots of folks here have a lot of good things to say about it. But gonna have to put it off I think. Got a Stardust and Mini Nova in today, think I overdid it and gave myself vaper's tongue.

Bleah!

(Boy but the tanks were puttin' out some major vapor on the Twist!)

You did good Supermarket. :) I love my Ego twists. I have 1000 mah, 650 and just recently got, from litecigusa, the 450. Being formerly a PAD smoker, the 1000 lasts about a day and a half, the 650 a day and the 450 half a day. The lil ones are working well, better than I thought they would. So small and perfect for being out and about. Only downside is they're not variable volt. It hasn't mattered though.

Enjoy stalking the mailman and getting you VapeMail!

Being basically lazy and a computer type geeky nerd, I rigged a thing where the USPS site sends me updates on tracking and the email program sets off a ringy sound when the package is delivered.

Stalking is hard work ya know?

;)
