Hi,

I quit smoking a week ago. I had already cut down from over a pack a day to a pack every two days. I received a sample Apollo disposeable last Monday & that was the last day I had an analog cigarette. I also picked up a Mistic e-cig at Walmart to tide me over until the 510 starter kit I ordered arrived in the mail. I just started on the 2nd Mistic cartridge today, so between the disposeable and the 1st Mistic cartridge, they lasted almost a week. Does that sound typical? It's really just going to depend on how much I use the thing, right?

I've just been carrying the e-cig around in my pocket. Is that ok? The cartridges came with silicone caps on them. Should I be using one of those on the end of the e-cig with the hole when it's in my pocket?

I'd also like to know if the vapor that I exhale still has nicotine in it that could be breathed in second-hand. I don't want to pump my kids full of nicotine, but if I don't have to go outside to use the e-cig, that would be good to know.

About the USB chargers... I have a USB mobile phone charger that also works with a part that can plug into a regular 110VAC outlet. Can I use it with the USB charger for the e-cig battery too?

I'm sorry if any of this has been asked & answered already, but my search-fu isn't as good as it used to be. I have read alot of existing threads already, so I think I mostly used the correct terminology.

Thanks,
Neil

I'm no expert but will give it a whirl. Cartomizers (which is what I assume your kits came with) are filled with nic juice. Depending on the manufacturer, the cartos will be nice and juicy and last a while or could be kind of dry and run out faster. How quickly you go through juice will depend on the frequency of your vaping. My advice when you get your 510 kit is that assume you will vape anywhere between 2-5ml per day, and also assume that you may need to try a few strengths of ejuice to find the one that is just right for you.

If your ecig can accidentally be fired in your pocket it is an accident waiting to happen. Is just my opinion. If it is in a shirtpocket and relatively stationary you may be ok but I never think it is a good idea unless the ecig has an on/off feature.

As far as 2nd hand vape is concerned, most are of the mindset that it is harmless.

Re: USB - I would never, ever use a charger that was not designed for the ecig that I was vaping. Accidents do happen and can cause serious injury. Not worth it at all for a $5-$10 accessory.

These are my best shots at answering your question. Some PhD vapors will probably chime in soon.

Congrats on switching to ecigs!! Happy vaping :vapor:

Neil, I'm at about the point you are. I first got a disposable & it lasted the best part of a couple of days but it tasted like plstic so I wasn't very impressed with that. I then got a NicStick kit & I liked it a lot but I was traveling & I couldn't find them anywhere else. I got a Joy kit at Walmart & it was so-so but it had that plastic taste too. I fell off the wagon & went back to analogs until I got back to that place where I got the NicSticks & got another kit. That gave me 2 batteries, 2 atomizers & 6 refillable cartridges & I got a bottle of juice. I stopped at Walmart & got a car adapter for the USB plug & it worked great. Here at home I plug my USB charger into my phone cord, as like you said it is a USB & that works fine. I have one plugged in my PC USB right now. I ordered a Volt kit from Smokeless Image & waiting for that along with some juice I ordered from some other outfit. So, we shall see how it goes. It's not a cigarette & never will be, in my mind, but I just have to quit that damned smoking. I was coughing half the night and now that is gone & I don't have nicotine fits like quitting cold turkey. Good luck & there is tons of info & videos on here that is very helpful...

Yes you can use the AC-> USB adapter assuming it's a standard adapter. It's just a USB power port. The charger will plug into that.

I don't know of a study for exhaled vapor itself, but that's not your real question. 2nd hand vape is shown by at least 1 study to be very low in exposure. Far lower than cigs. That said... some vape outside or at least in a separate area anyway just to be safe. It seems to settle out/dilute pretty fast.

Pocket is often safe but it depends on the e-cig's specific design and if it has a button or not. Some even activate on sound.

As to longevity and use...YMMV as they say. Disposables lasted me about a day of normal vaping. But I wasn't cutting down in that fashion either.

If your using one that has a visible vapor cloud then I stay far enough from non-smokers/vapors to a point the cloud does not get to them.
And this is just an opinion but i feel that since each cloud is usually not even a drop of juice then they would probably have to kiss you as you exhaled to get a hit off of it. Just don't let the kids touch your stuff and for sure don't let them touch the juice. Keep that stuff up away and make sure they know not to touch. Can't hurt to set a bit away or even in another room if you feel uncomfortable. I have found that a lot of folks that did not like the disposables. You don't get enough choices of juice or the control you get off a a VV battery and a good atty.

For flavors try some sample packs at like 5-10 ml each. Keep the nic count low as you can.
Hope this will help as always this is my opinion and that my not be the norm or even correct.

Thanks everyone for answering my questions. I think I'll just keep my distance from the kids while vaping to avoid blowing a vapor cloud in their faces.

The 510's I ordered are manual, with a button. What other ways do people carry them?
