Hello All.. I am new to all this with the goal of quitting cigarettes. I just bought a brand new setup at a local retailer. After carefully following the instructions they gave me I am still getting really harsh bad tasting hits. Here is my setup:

Kangertech Aerotank Mini
Vision Spinner VV 1100mah
KOV 50/50 "Shelby's Mohawk" juice

Best way to describe it is dry cotton ball in the throat feeling with no good flavor. Made sure I primed the coils and have voltage turned down as well. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like dry hits but being a newbie myself I have no advice for you outside the obvious :(

I have seen some say they take some of the wicking out (a few strands) to help with absorption but that tends to lead to leaking and is mostly done with max or high VG juices because they are so thick.

Barring that I'd have no other suggestions other than putting in a new coil and see if that helps.

I've never used an Aerotank but like Cariessa said, you are getting dry hits. This is a juice feed issue, not enough juice on the coil. It could be a bad tank or it could be user error.

Is the retailer you got it from a true vape shop? If so, I would take it in and ask them for help and they will (should) be more than happy to help resolve the issue.

If not, I'm sure someone with more Aerotank experience will chime in here, it could be as easy as something being over tightened.

Best of luck, I've been cig free for almost 4 years now. There are a lot of great resources and people here to help you in this journey, welcome!

I use Aerotanks a lot (well used to) I would say take the atomizer out and pop the chimney off and take the flavor wicks out. Like this:

Take one out to start with, if it still dry hits take the other one out. I always take both flavor wicks out on those coils. I haven't had a leakin issue doing that. If you do just put one back in. Be careful with them though, they fray REALLY easy.

I have had 'vapor lock' with the Aerotanks. I was told to hold the battery firmly where it attaches to the tank (no real magic in where you hold it!) and then 'flick' the thing like an old fashioned thermometer. Do this a couple times. You will see some bubbles rise through the liquid. It fixed my problems with the PT3 and the Aerotanks. Good luck!

Thanks. I got it from Kings of Vapor. Really helpful there when I got it. It should be noted that I do get a good bit of vapor. Can you get a lot of vapor and still have a dry hit?? I may try taking some wick out but when I look at it they appear to be fully saturated with juice. I've been a smoker for years. Starting to wonder if maybe I'm just not used to how it feels on the throat...

Hmmmm, what nic are you vaping? I had one 18mg I just couldn't take. It was like vaping a rusted Brillo pad, complete with soap. Did you try the flavor at the shop?

And some flavors don't work for some people. A great example is the EC Blends vs Mount Baker Vapor divide. I have no problems with EC Blends but MBV, to me, are very tasteless. Some people go the other way.

Because when I've gotten a dry hit, there was no or almost no vapor.

Could be too high of a nicotine concentration in the e-liquid. Nicotine is what causes the "throat hit" sensation. Too much can cause what you describe. What nic strength is your e-liquid?

How many cigs a day did you smoke? The following recommendations:

<11 cigs = 6 mg
20 cigs = 12 mg
30 cigs = 18 mg
40 cigs = 24 mg

Then if you can't 'try before you buy' I'd say try something much lower nic and non-menthol. Some of those can also really taste harsh, especially if they're new. I have no idea what flavor it's supposed to be, as there's no description on the web site, but some citrus can also have an amazingly harsh bite. The one I couldn't vape was supposed to be a margarita flavor.

Although a web site with juice and no description does not fill me with confidence. ;)

But maybe something with cream and come back to the Shelby's Mohawk later? You might just have some kind of sensitivity to something in it.

I'd say 6mg and something pretty boring, just to start out with. No anise, clove, cinnamon, menthol, tobacco, etc. They can all get pretty aggressive and wouldn't find your issue. If you like really aggressive flavors like those, you can always doctor a milder flavor with them later.

I could take the mentol for about a week (a two pack a day menthol smoker 100s) and I soon weaned off of that the second day to just about ten puffs with my coffee, to other flavors, it just tasted nasty to me. (plus I had to back down my nicotine, I started at 24 and am at a 12 now five weeks later)

it might just be the flavor too...Mt Baker Vapery sent my kiddos a "coffee" flavor and it's been passed around more than the common cold, it's a nasty hit, no one likes it. We'll pass it on too...maybe someone will like it! *lol*

go to one of those vape shops that lets you try all their flavors..is what we do.

I'm enjoying the heck out of Suicide Bunny's Madrina (cool Honeydew) right now...

I've run into a lot of menthol smokers that tried Ice and Menthol flavors at first and found them to be nasty...

good luck and keep on vaping!!

Good advice from everyone. I don't have a mini, I have an Aerotank and some single bottom coils. The learning curve for me was to not draw as soon as I hit the battery button, and to draw a second after letting it go - and not to draw too hard. It's just a little different than analogs, and doing it this way has fixed pretty much every problem I had with tanks.

You might be getting, no or bad flavor due to the fact that you recently quit smoking. It will take awhile before your taste buds recover and before you get the true flavor of your vap. Also from someone who also just started ive noticed a difference in the throat hit depending on the nicotine level. The higher the level the harsher the throat hit, At first it seemed really harsh on the back of my throat but as I got used to vapping it has gotten a lot better.
