I recieved two atty's with my Riva kit. I used one for the first week. I took it out to soak in some cheap booze for the night and opened up the plastic around the other. Primed it up. Screwed it on. Hit that button...and...nothing. No hiss. No crackle. No vapor. $&@!

Ok. So I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me about replacing it. (my mouse is hovering over the vendor review thread). I have to get my only working atty back to new. I don't have a sonic cleaner, or all day to let it 'dry'. All day today I suffered through puny vapor, slow heat and little else. Blowing out after a booze bath helped. But it still just feels dirty. The only thing I hadn't tried, but wanted to, was the dry burn. I was so worried over all of the disclaimers, "this is how to dry burn an atty, and I am not responsible if you melt it."

Anyway. I did it. Soaked in vodka first. Then there was no turning back. I just held it on. The hiss kept going. Soon enough the sound simmered down. Then the smoke started poring out. I could see the red hot element. It smelled like a handful of ... hair wrapped in a dirty diaper and lit on fire via natural gas and sealed in a small bucket and opened a year later at the grand opening of the local waste water treatment plant. Not too good. I let it cool down for a few minutes.

I dropped a few and loaded a cart. Popped it on and wammo! Snap crackle pop. I had a brand new atty. Except for the while ... hair Yadda Yadda taste that lingered for a few minutes. But it's gone now. And I'm relieved that I have a new atty. And hopefully the people that sold me my Riva kit without a bum atty, 5 missing carts and no case will own up and send me a dinky 'working' burner.

Thanks.

I'm a "budette". ;) Ok, well maybe someone will come along that has experience with dry burning a tank atty. :D Currently, I put some baking soda in the top part of the atty, then add vinegar and quickly cover the top with my thumb. It pushes everything out of the batt side. Rinse with water, dry burn and it seems to the trick, just messy so I was hoping for another way. Thanks for your help anyways!! :D
Sorry bud. I don't know much at all about tanks. Maybe someone else has a clue?

I just vape an occasional tank of flavorless (100% PG or 80/20 PG/VG mix with just a little nicotine added) eliquid until the juice in the tank runs clear. That's my maintenance. I got that idea from LGD and it seems to work just fine (PG is a decent solvent). Once in awhile, I do a thorough cleaning; first I boil them for 15-20 min in distilled water--just pop them, fully submerged, into my microwave. Then I flush them several times with the boiling water, soak them for 15 min in vodka, blow the excess out, let them dry a few hours, and then do several short (4-5 sec) dry burns until the entire coil glows orange. Then another quick rinse with vodka, to get the ashes out, blow out the excess through the battery end, let them dry a bit, and they are ready to go.

The same can be done in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for 3 minutes (or 6, or 9), depending on how dirty the atty is.

Works for me. YMMV.

You put metal atomizers in your microwave? Last time I put a foil wrapped burger in there I just about had a fire, sparks flying! I thought metal was a no no.

i thought the same thing when i read that. maybe being submerged in water keeps it from sparking?

Fully submerged
in water. No problem.
