I'm probably overdoing it.

I'm only about three weeks into vaping and I love it. But I think I am overdoing it with chain vaping. I'm retired so I don't really have much to do and for the past three weeks I've been sitting at my computer and researching all kinds of stuff about equipment and juice and DIY etc, sometimes well into the night. It's become second nature for me to vape while I read. Now keep in mind that although I was a PAD smoker till three weeks ago, I never smoked at my computer - didn't want to spend all day in a stinky atmosphere. With vaping I am taking liberties - maybe far too much than what's good for me.

For the past week I have been sneezing occasionally, coughing up sticky mucus, getting a blocked nose. I'm pretty old and never suffered from any type of allergy. It could be a slight head cold but I don't feel sick at all - more like hay fever symptoms. Mostly I vape a 50-50 mix at 6mg but I do have a few liquids that are higher PG.

So will this pass or am I really overdoing things? Should I lay down some rules as I used to do with my smoking?

I didn't read all the posts for this thread, but you triggered memories for me you may want to read. After smoking heavy (2-3 packs a day) for 42 years I switched to vaping last November with my last stinky being Dec 11th. First thing I noticed was the lack of a big ol' loogie in my throat and not going through a 1/2 a roll of toilet paper in the mornings blowing my nose. I've had sneezing fits, coughing fits, mouth sores, constipation, all of which I thought was due to vaping, but the folks here at ECF set me straight. You said you're kinda old, I'm 61...old??? Don't know. One thing I can tell you is that over the years of smoking we've built up toxins in our bodies that has to come out. I too now sit in the living room vaping, and that was a no no before, but it keeps me off the cigs. I AM A CHAIN VAPER!!! I've got a way of holding my iStick in my left hand and it never seems to leave it. Despite that, I feel better. I would say after 6 months of vaping, I am pretty well cleaned out with no side effects from smoking all those years. Give your body a chance to clean up and become accustomed to vaping...it's worth the wait. PS, I use a 70pg/30vg mix with 6mg nic...a good blend for me.

I just re-read your post and my line of thought on your stuffy nose is: there's nothing in your air passages from smoking to stop the pollens, you may now be suffering from allergies. I grew an intolerance to wood dust...my tough luck since I build furniture for a living.

You know your own limits and also your own goals for yourself.

I subscribe to the "everything in moderation" philosophy-----so I don't over-spend, over-eat, over-drink, over-vape, etc. (except on special days like a big Thanksgiving meal or something......you know, pretty normal stuff.)

Gluttony, in any format, isn't appealing to me. Seems to get people into trouble in general.

I noticed when my Mom retired, she seemed to become pretty undisciplined in some things, which she wasn't before. I mentioned it to her and she agreed... she got back to keeping a little more schedule and goal-setting for the day, and in the end, she seemed a lot happier and healthy as well.

"good for you" is relative. I mean, it's not just physical but emotional, psychological, spiritual, etc. If there is something about vaping "too much" that is bothering you on some level, then you should look within and decide if that is something you want for yourself. I don't know if that kind of question can be farmed out to complete strangers on an internet forum, because everybody is different.

If you are fine with your present lifestyle then continue. If there is something you feel needs tweaking, then do that. ;)

Unless you were asking if it's okay to constantly vape.....maybe it is while trying to quit smoking. However, I believe that since vaping is harm reduction, that doesn't imply harmless. I always tried to contain my vaping because I really want to be as kind to my lungs as possible, they were already damaged by smoking, so giving them more food flavorings, etc. didn't seem prudent to me in the long term.

Again, that is and was just *my* goal, and still is, but I am not the same person as anyone else. :)

i know when i used to vape purely PG, it gave me sore throat and drymouth often. Ever sinced I switched to purely VG i tend to chainvape more but have no side effects such as sore throat/cough anymore. I cut down my nicotine to around 8mg and use pure VG now and dont have problems. You could try that see if it works for you ?

I've been vaping for 6 months with 50/50 liquid, 1.2% nic, at 8-14 watts and smoking zero cigarettes. I can't find reports of doctors treating problems caused by using e-cigs. Inhaling too much of anything besides air is going to create some irritation, minor or otherwise but so far no reports of chronic problems that I can find. E-cigs gave me 100% control of smoking. I'd like better control of my vaping. It would be helpful if my mods had blue tooth and could send puff seconds and watts to a smart phone app that collected and time stamped them and then could display summary information. How about industry standard hardware and open source software so that any developer could create the app. Bluetooth chipsets can be tiny and used very little power. I gether that a few devices may have this but the devices may go back a few years.

That sounds like it might be symptoms of no longer smoking (your lungs kicking out the rubbish from smoking for so many years). Either that, or it could simply be allergies. I was only an occassional smoker before starting to vape, and I haven't had any problems, except for a slight sore throat the first week. I upped my water intake, and it went away. I chain-vape most of the day, so I've been starting to use unflavored e-liquid most of the time. The flavors haven't caused me any problems, but I just feel like it might be healthier to use as little flavoring as possible because of my chain-vaping. (Plus, my coils last so much longer with unflavored liquid!) That's pretty much the only restriction I've given myself, and I feel pretty great.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I do get a slight heaviness in my chest when I vape full VG for too long. I've started to add some PG into my mixes.

After 3 and-a-half years of chain vaping, I feel fine. I'm using 16-18mg, tobacco-flavored ejuice. Instead of changing the nicotine level (I've read recommendations to up the nicotine or to reduce the nicotine), I've done nothing.

I vape when I want, my lanyard is a constant companion.

The result of this has been a general (and unconscious) reduction in my vaping. When I started, I was vaping around 40, 1ml cartomizers a week. I now vape 20 or less cartomizers. So in my case, at least, time has been my friend.

I don't give chain vaping much thought. When I smoked, I never chain-smoked, so chain vaping is to me a sign that the body is missing something. Instead of making changes, I'm forcing my body to deal with it and conform. It seems to be working. It beats cold turkey.

Try an evic. Comes with tracking software and puff monitors built in.

You'll discover what joyetech did, very few people actually care.

I read a scientific paper somewhere ( can't remember where) that in order to get the same amount of nicotine as you'd get from 1 cigarette you'd have to vape 18mg for forty minutes. This explains chain vaping to me at least.

This is of course anecdotal and refers only to me but I've actually just posted about my experience about exactly this - how little nicotine you actually do ingest from vaping.

If you feel like you are overdoing it then I'd recommend lowering your nicotine. I've never felt any discomfort lowering my nicotine levels. I've gone from 24mg to 3mg in the past 6 months and it has been stupidly easy.

That's the truth for a lot of people, once we finally detox from the other stuff in cigs it seems like vaping and not just the nic keeps the baddies at bay

I had the same thing going on for three weeks and I even got the nasty canker sores after I switched to vaping. But those were all symptoms from quitting smoking. you're doing yourself a hell of a good thing right now by not smoking so please keep it up! and by the way, if you're overdosing yourself with nicotine, you'll know it. You'll get dizzy and you'll feel like puking (or you'll actually go and puke). But it doesn't seem like you're experiencing any of that. So i'd say you're fine.

It's easy to get carried away when you're first starting out. I mean there's nothing to tell you that you've finished vaping, no .... to rub out. Once you've been vaping for a while you'll know just how much you can take before feeling ill.

I have a device called the MVP 2.0 which has a puff counter. A lot of people don't like it, but it helped me when I was first transitioning into vaping. I used to smoke American Spirits RYO and counted ten puffs for each RYO I would smoke and just used the MVP the same way, with ten inhales and then putting it down for an hour or two.
