Thanks for this info. I saw this article and it got me thinking that valuable (at least anecdotal) information is not being calculated. More people are smoking e-cigarettes, but as a quitting tool, they may be all smoke and mirrors - NY Daily News

To answer your question, I am a long time menthol smoker about to make the switch, and finding a lot of encouragement as well as good advice here.

The article presents terribly. Using a couple of individual cases and broad brushing potential "ineffectiveness" is terrible reporting. However, the comments on the article speak louder than the article itself.

Current FDA approved NRT is a joke. I have friends who have been chewing nic gum for so long that their heads are fat from building up jaw muscles.

The truth will come out soon about how it blows away all other approved nrt's combined. IMO- the jury is already in on this topic. The collateral damage side of mainstream and medical acceptance will be BT's race to dominate the market.

Do doctors even believe that gum, patches, are lozenges actually have a high success rate? From what I've seen those nrt's just become a long term lifestyle or failure.

My doctor laughed at me when I told him I was on the gum. He said, "Now, you're just mainlining nicotine." Didn't take too kindly to that. He's obviously not been addicted to smoking, like my 35 year 3 PAD habit. Quit on a dime after 18 previous serious unsuccessful attempts. Heck yeah it's a smoking cessation device, just don't tell anyone...no, really, we'll upset BT and the FDA. Really...

Welcome aboard, good luck, glad you got here (vaping Nirvana), and vape On! Be Strong!

Well, I am glad you found us. And welcome to ecf.

If you need some help, please do not hesitate to ask. It's my opinion that most people who make it to ecf versus just picking up a gas station vape device, succeed at much higher rates. Maybe its the community feel, maybe its the hobby factor, maybe it's the idea that people just discover "DAMN THIS IS WAY TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE and I need to talk to someone about it", but just being on ecf will probably help you quit.

Finally, I think menthol smokers have an easier time in general with it because the menthol juices can make up for the "throat hit" part that non-menthol users struggle with at first. Good luck.

From your link: “There is still a lot we don’t know about these products, including whether they will decrease or increase use of traditional cigarettes," CDC director Tom Frieden, MD, MPH, said in a statement.

Whether e-cigarettes can be used to help smokers quit altogether is also unknown. But despite that, a number of e-cigarette brands are marketed as quitting tools -- a way to wean oneself off nicotine without the harmful effects of inhaling smoke.

Nobody, and I mean nobody is marketing any e-cigarette as a quitting too. Truely, if someone can't prove their point without lying, they don't have a point

Thanks for the welcome! VERY happy to hear you say that this works well for menthol smokers... I'm getting pretty excited about my decision. Will keep you posted as to my progress.

I was a die hard Kool's smoker for 9 years, and the Menthol juices definitely DO pack a harder TH compared to other juices of the same nic level. I mean, my generic 12mg 60PG/40VG menthol juice hit harder than my 100PG 18mg RY4 blend.

And yeah, the community here. Man, these guys suck! XD All kidding aside, even before I registered (I was lurking for 4 months until I finally decided to be on board with the forums) these guys are all nothing but support. I mean sure, there's some fueds as to why user A likes X device over Y device when user B likes Y device better than anything else, but it's all in good fun (that and the technical jargon they throw around, very entertaining, very educational). You'll learn more here (and reading that article's comments) in 5 seconds than you will reading the actual article all the way through. BT and the FDA have no reason to keep on to the claims they make about e-cigs (not to mention all the bans they try to pass) because they don't keep up with any scholastic research on the e-cig industry, it's pretty much them freaking out about how they're going to line their pockets with green when all the NRT and cigarette smokers finally jump ship to a better, healthier lifestyle (did I mention hobby? :p)

-EDIT-
Just to throw this back in the mix in case anyone forgot about it.

I used to smoke menthol stinkies as well and to be honest I think the menthol is just as addictive as the nicotine! I've been vaping for two months now and among my favorite juices are menthol/fruit mixes and the first juice I tried which is Dekang Portal Blend which is "supposed" to be like a Newport but not really lol. You may like peppermint flavors too. Good luck, I'm sure you will enjoy it!
