I've spent (this is just a guestimate) around 40,000 dollars, and smoked roughly 250,000 analogs.:w00t:, and all I got is this lousy totebag from Marlboro.:laugh:

OMG, I hope your guesstimate is off by a lot. I started smoking when analogs
were about $0.50 a pack, (yes 50 cents) so I'm not even sure how to start an estimate.
Was paying $7.50 - $7.75 when I started vaping, which figures to be about a 15mL bottle/pack.

All I ever got from Camel was a smoker's cough, not even a tote bag.:laugh:

You know you're right.
I started in 1978. I think they were like 75cents a pack, and slowly started climbing. However 75 cents back then was worth more then today, so I would have to figure inflation in it as well.
Then the fact that most of the time I was a 2 pack smoker, and just the last few years I dropped down to a pack a day.

Yea, I used to collect any Camel stuff I could get my hands on back in the 80s. I think the only thing I have left is a pretty cool looking zippo lighter.

+1 crazy comparison for smoking vs. vaping. Most of have to guess how much we spent on cigarettes over the years and how much we actually smoked. The remains from smoking was simply emptied into the trash each day and I don't if anyone ever kept receipts each time they bought some. And, I don't of anyone out there who was such a hoarder that they kept all of their cig butts or empty packs?

With vaping, we have credit/debit card receipts, e-mail comfirmations, bottles, equipment, etc...Pretty much any one of us can pinpoint the exact amount we have spent since we started.

OK, I went back and tried to do the math....

Figuring 1 1/2 pad (many times more:() at an average of $2.50 (NJ taxes have always been high)
it comes to $1,370 a year for 35+ years for..........(I don't even WANT to know!!)

This is a great thread, most talk about how much we're spending NOW on PVs, but
I figure I can buy 2 of each mod ever manfactured on the planet and still have $$$
left over compared to analogs!

Marlboro Miles! One year we ordered a black leather jacket and wireless speakers. Got home one day and there sitting on the stoop was four boxes. Somehow my order got quadrupled, there were four jackets waiting for me. A week later, and there were four more boxes...had wireless speakers in every room in my house. Still use them, can't say the same for the cigarettes! LOL

Exactly why I have yet to feel guilty about my spending on vaping! =D

ok so here is my math ... it is not perfect or 100% accurate basically an estimation.

15 years
Per Pack Years Packs Total cost at that Price
$1.50 x 2 x 365 $1,095.00
$1.75 x 1 x 365 $638.75
$2.00 x 1 x 365 $730.00
$2.50 x 2 x 365 $1,825.00
$2.75 x 2 x 365 $2,007.50
$3.00 x 2 x 365 $2,190.00
$3.50 x 2 x 365 $2,555.00
$3.75 x 2 x 365 $2,737.50
$4.00 x 1 x 365 $1,460.00

Total over 15 years - $15,238.75 so basically the cost of my used Pt Cruiser

I based the prices on what the cheapest ciggs would have been since i generally bought the cheapest i could find. The last brand i was buying I could get for about $4 per pack and i figure on average 1 pack per day. For a while it was more so i know this number is actually less than what I really spent.

I seriously don't want to know... it makes me really sad. Glad I'm saving some of that money now.

Someone else did another neat calc with how many times they have gone "hand-to-mouth" (for the habit part of it)..... you know, like 20 cigs per day x 10 x 365 x <# years smoking> and it equaled like 3,000,000 times. That's partly why e-cigs work so well, compared to other nic alternatives.
