I've read several posts recently about people being "stuck"... usually with a bad battery, sometimes with a bad charger. They have one e-cig or two and now they're stuck with a dead battery. While this post doesn't address the "out of atties" issue, the other issues are solvable.
So, if you are doing research for an e-cig purchase.... GET BACKUPS/SPARES. Have a few options. Tips:
1) At first, if you use atomizers, try a new one every month. Throw the old one (still working) in the atty-bin and save it. Spares. Same for cartos. Have some backups/spares purchased.
2) batteries. Spare battery AND spare charger recommended. If you're like me, you don't want to plunk down tons of cash all at once, but buy a duplicate kit NEXT month if you like the kit. Spare stuff. It is usually a good way to get a spare charger, another set of atties, etc.
3) In a pinch. Let's say your last battery dies, it's the weekend, and you won't get mail-order for 3 days (they have horror movies like this). You can MAKE AN E-CIG. The modders section talks about it. The easiest is probably a 5 v USB Passthru. A button, the connector from the dead battery, and a USB cable. You do need a soldering iron, or electrical epoxy. Button and solder/iron from Radio-shack is under $20.00. You do need a USB power supply (like a powered USB hub, USB wall-wart) that can supply about 2.0 amps. Using a computer USB port often works in a pinch (I don't suggest it tho... But I tried mine for "emergency" use... it worked).
4) you can also hook up a 4xAAA NiMH rechargeable MOD but again, you need to solder. This is due to the fact that lithium ion batteries are not often sold retail without tearing a battery pack apart. Chargers are few and far between. See the modder's section and look for "The Puck" for a NiMH solution. We need to lobby retailers next, lol.
5) Also, some battery packs may have PROTECTED LiPo BATTERIES.....(If you know of one, add a comment). You'll need a li Ion charger for them tho.
6) Disposables at 7-11 ish places.
I should add that some cities have e-cig stores, or tobacco shops that sell e-cigs and disposables too. This often include e-juice that "works" (has nicotine).
Just some thoughts. See the modder's section on building stuff. If anyone has any other "Ghetto Mod" emergency build advice... Add a comment. This is for being "stuck", not for all mods in general. If course, in a pinch you may have the "wrong" stuff, temporary connections, clips, etc. (MacGyver would be proud). Build it correctly later. Anyone have stories to tell?
Of course, there's always.... gum, patches, lozenges, and buying a pack of smokes (Boo!).
